Vintage Air -firewall question

I'm starting to shave the firewall on my 67'.I have a vintage air sure-fit unit to put in & I'm not sure about the routing of the hoses. The hoses come straight out the back & look like they're right at the firewall. Not sure what one or if I can use a bulkhead fitting.I wanted to run the hoses over where the fan was.Maybe I can move the inside unit forward & use 90* fittings.Cab is gutted so inside unit isn't installed.Any ideas?...............Bob

Ask Big Al, he ran his where you can't see them. It's really nice.

Re: Vintage Air -firewall question

I did not use the block on mine as I did not want the lines to go thru the firewall. I had my hoses extened and we ran them thru the vent on the passenger side up thru the inside of the fender all the way to the radiator support to the compressor. They are so hidden that when people look at the engine compartment they ask if the truck has a/c as the compressor is mounted on the lower part of the engine. It was pretty easy to do just alot of measuring. I did not hook up the heater as I live in Florida and really have no use for it which made it even easier just to run two hoses.

Re: Vintage Air -firewall question

Al,man that is clean! Thats basicly how I want to do it,but probably not as stealthy. What I have a question about is where the tubes come out of the inside unit at the firewall ,they point at the firewall & doesn't look like there is enough room for a 90* fitting. How did you hook up the lines to the inside unit, maybe there is more room than I think.I live up in Daytona I get cold easy so I need the heat,thanks......................Bob

Bob I am driving my truck to the shop tomorrow if it does not rain and what I will do is take some picts under there for you, keep in mind my a/c kit is from classic auto air which might be different than vintage auto air. If I remember correctly (did this a year and half ago) we got different fittings I will have to check

Re: Vintage Air -firewall question

Which sure fit did you get? Like Al says they have some tight 90 deg fittings. Mine is a gen 2 and they point to the kick panel in my 71. Depending on location of your unit you are not limited on how you get the hoses out.
Also if there is a problem they will work with you on a trade or whatever. Good people there and at Old Air.
