62 body lift?

i have been working on my 1962 chevrolet c10 long box over the past year and rebuilt the whole brake system and the engine but i was curious if anybody put a body lift on one of these pickups or was able to somehow lift the suspension without putting a whole lot of money into it and using the original suspension set up instead of converting it or using a different frame. if anybody could help me out it would be much appreciated thanks.

Re: 62 body lift?

Your thread title says 'body lift' but in your post you're talking about suspension lifts. Which do you want to do?

Re: 62 body lift?

Well a body lift starts with making lift blocks for all of your body mounts the height you want. Disconnect all linkages, wires and hoses between the body and engine and frame. Then loosen all your body mounts, lift the body and insert your lift blocks. Tighten all the body mounts and then modify all the previously disconnected linkages, wires and hoses so that you can reconnect them.

As for lifting the suspension, the front of a '62 has torsion bars, so they can be adjusted to give a certain amount of increased height. The rear depends on if you have coils or leafs. With leafs you can use a lift block and longer U-bolts as used on 4x4's. With coils the easiest would be taller springs.....if you can find some. Otherwise you may have to move the axle to under the trailing arms. This still requires cutting, welding and some fabrication.

Re: 62 body lift?

i really like the look of that. how did you achieve the height in the front end, did you have to modify a lot or were you able to adjust the torsion bars along with some different a-arms? and as for the body lift would i be able to buy a body lift kit for something like an 80's model chevy so i would have polyurethane or nylon lift blocks instead of using square tubing? and would i also have to lower the fan shroud on the radiator instead of cutting the bottom?

Re: 62 body lift?

Man if i ever get a Hot Rod to drive on the weekends I think im gonna raise my truck like this and make it a 4x4 and then it will be a real parts truck!
I cant drive my truck threw a old field and pull a car out with a lowered truck lol that thing would be perfect parts getter or car finder!
Man sweet truck looks like lots of work put in to it!!!
And a blast to drive!
Looks like you could drive it 100mph off road lol
