Door Mechanism help....

My passenger side outside door handle will not open my door.
When I looked inside the door, the push rod is shorter than the one on the drivers side.

Do they have a different length for different years?

I do not see a way to adjust where the push rod strikes the striker either, so I am thinking I have to buy a new handle........

Anyone else ever had this problem?

I did! I ended up cutting the rods in half and welding them to the correct length. I had purchased new ones for the correct year, but they were long..

I am thinking of ditching the old locks and strikes for a bearclaw..

Re: Door Mechanism help....

I know from experience if the handle isn't totally tight against the shell it won't open from the outside. Even a little loose will cause it.

Re: Door Mechanism help....

Well, I have another mechanism to put in the door, so maybe that will work, if not, I am going to try and either replace the rod, or find another handle......

I had 2 or 3 doors, and I am not positive I have the original mechanism or handle on the door......

Stuff gets mixed up over a couple of years.....
