GMC or Chevrolet??????????
I am new to the classic trucks but not new to hot Roding. I just bought a GMC custom 70 short bed. This truck has power steering and lots of chrome. Where is the truck in collectability?
I go to a fair amount of car shows and see Chevy trucks this year 10:1 over a GMC. I know it is all about preference, but in the market place which bring the most money? Thanks for the truck information Last edited by ready2go69; 01-18-2010 at 10:15 AM. |

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
I do see less GMC's than Chevys, I don't think they are any more collectable or valuble. I think in the same condition with the same options if anything they bring just a little less.
Welcome by the way and project looks nice!

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
Welcome from N. Calif!
No clue as to the comparative value GMC vs Chevy, but I doubt it is significant. A nice truck is a nice truck -- it's really a matter of personal preference. If you prefer GMC, then it's the right choice for you!

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
I have to agree with that in this case a truck is a truck wether is a show piece, resto mod or an original it is a matter of which one you like better.
It is not like a 69 camaro vs a 70 camaro they are both nice but people prefer one over the other.. welcome from South Florida!!!

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
I have no perference. I just got the truck at a good price and was not sure what my next step would be. Do I fix it orginal or drop it and weld up the molding holes? I work on these projects and then I move on to something else. Other than the rockers(I have new one to weld in) this truck does not have the rust issues I have seen in others. This is a great truck for someone who loves GMC. 350, auto, double hump heads, holley four barrell and headers.
I little time and this thing will be sweet which everway I go. |

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
It seems a lot of folks build the Chevy's. From what I have seen and researched looking for parts... The cheapest build is a 1970 chevy SWB 2wd. There are a ton of them and a ton of after market parts.

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
5x more Chevys were built. That`s the first reason you see more. The value is the same.Personally,I`d pay more for rarity. That`s how collector value is normally structured. That`s why I`ve swung more toward GMC lately.I like`em all and have both.I`d never buy a GMC and turn into Chevy. It`s not like you can`t find a Chevy of that`s what someone wants.
I don`t care about the market. It`s about what I like, not an investment. But,I think anything is worth more kept as what it was built as.Even if one was worth more than the other, that would only be true if it was authentic.

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
A 67 GMC small window short/fleet with a straight six would be the ultimate for me.
That being said, if it's nice, I don't care what it is.

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
I have one of each. a 68 GMC long fleet and a 67 Chevy small window short step. the 67 may end up being a GMC though. there's just something about them, I can't quite put my hand on it. oh yeah, I know. PROFESSIONAL GRADE!!!!!!!!!!

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
When I started looking for my truck I wanted a Chevy mainy because I liked the modern styling of the egg crate grill. When I found my GMC I thought I could change the grill and nameplates and make it a Chev, however now I wouldn't even think of it. The grill and the GMC name has grown on me, and it is an added plus that they are little more rare than the Chevs. I like my GMC!

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
This is just my opinion, of course:
If you're talking "in general" if you have a GMC and Chevy side by side, same options, same condition, etc, etc, etc, the Chevy will most likely sell for a slightly higher price, and possibly a little quicker... Now if you had a Chevy look a like that was originally titled as a GMC, some people might see that as a "put together" truck and place it's value lower than if it had been left a GMC or actually was a Chevy. All my opinion of course... and I'd leave your truck as a GMC, it's a nice lookin' truck you have there ![]() I'm also a big fan of "chromed out" GMC's like your truck originally was!

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
60 degrees yesterday in NC. I hope the cold weather will stay away long enough to for me to weld in these rockers.
Can someone tell me where the Custom is in the GMC lineup. Top grade.......bottom grade truck? Last edited by ready2go69; 01-20-2010 at 11:05 AM. |

Re: GMC or Chevrolet??????????
Dad always said that a GMC is just a Chevy with the bolts tightend up!
![]() ![]() ![]() Thing is, after tearing down my Chevy Panel, I kinda believe him. I never found a tight bolt on the thing. Only bolts I even needed a cheater on was the U-bolts holding the rear end on.

It is not like a 69 camaro vs a 70 camaro they are both nice but people prefer one over the other.. A better comparison would be between a ponitiac firebird vs. chevy camaro. |
