Question reproduction door panels

I bought a set of parchment door panels for my 72 and was completely disappointed in the quality. Thin and wavy not to mention you can't use the wood grain inserts.Has anyone purchased the deluxe reproduction panels for a 71 and older? Was wondering how the quality is of the vinyl and the wood grain strip. This is for a nut and bolt restoration so I want them nice!

Re: reproduction door panels

I would look for a nice OEM set of 72 panels on here, then re-dye them. Nothing fits better than OEM.

Re: reproduction door panels

If you want them correct, you need to find OEM, you could get by with the 70-71 panels that are assembled, but they have plastic backs to them and they tend to crinkle the woodgrain. You can buy unassembled door panels and wrap metal panels like the factory. I have OEM in my 71' Super. As far as 72' panels, always find OEM. You pay more for them, but they are far superior. Trevor

Re: reproduction door panels

Hey Trevor
Have you had first hand experience with the 71 repros? I would put them on factory metal backs but I wonder how good the wood grain and mylar look?

Re: reproduction door panels

I haven't had experience with them. I just go by what I have seen. The pre-assembled 70-71's always look wrinkled in the woodgrain area. I figure it's do to the plastic back. The unassembled type don't look as wrinkled, though it your would probably want a interior shop to assemble them to your metal panels. I will try and find a pic of both to reference for you. Trevor

Re: reproduction door panels

I bought the molded ABS door panels from Classic Ind in charcol and am not real happy with the quality. They are in the truck and with a little massaging they are respectable but I wouldn't buy them again. Where the woodgrain runs along the top the chrome bead wasn't glued down completly. OEM if you can find what you want.I wanted grey interior and they never made it for our years of trucks.
