Frame Dimensions

I am going to be doing the suspension on the 1966 4WD and want to convert the frame over to the 1972 polyurethane bushing type suspension. I want to use factory spring hangers so that it looks like it was made that way.

I need the frame dimensions in the following areas to see if the 1972 spring hangers will work on the 1966 frame. I have 1 1/4 ton axles (CUCV Dana 60 and 70" wide 14 Bolt) already finished and waiting to go in. I am more concerned with the front dimensions because my 14 bolt doesnt have any spring pads or shock mounts installed yet.

**Outside dimension of frame for the front spring hanger and shackle mounts

Re: Frame Dimensions

I would think that the '66 frame would be the same width as the '72 frame. I have a '69 frame that I could measure tomorrow. I believe it would be the same as a '72.

I have searched and I am not changing the frame, just the spring hangers. Thanks!

Re: Frame Dimensions

All this help has been great. All of the 1972 Leaf Spring Hangers will work and are within 1/8" on all of the measurements.

Now I just need a complete set of perfect hangers off a 1972 4X4 to start getting ready for the Lift Springs, Greaseable Poly Bushings, Shocks and Mount up the Axles.

The axles are almost finished. I still need the Ceramic Brake Pads and all the Stainless Brake Lines. I will post up pictures as soon as I have all the Brake Calipers painted. It will have Disc Brakes front and rear with 4.56 gears and lockers at both ends.

I hope to have the new steel wheels real soon. They are being custom made for the truck and will be 17X9 with 5" backspace. They will have an old school look with the new BFG KM2 35x12.50x17.

Re: Frame Dimensions

Have you considered going with 52" springs up front and 56's in the rear with a shackle flip?

I use the truck for my business so I want to keep it looking and performing great. I dont plan to do any real rock climbing and will mostly use it for trips to the Desert with toys and up in the San Bernardino Mountains camping, hiking and mining.
