Ahhh I almost rolled my Burb last night!
So there I was right......
Coming back from a late night store run and I hear a noise like I had a flat i slow down to pull over and BAM!!! My driver front wheel comes off and my truck ramps up it about 4 feet into the air and onto two wheel stunt man status. It comes back down with a HUGE thud and lots of sparks! It hit so hard the carb primaries got stuck wide open and I proceed to haul a$$ for about 20 feet before I shut her down and manage to pull into a bus stop zone on the side of the road. I got out on the passenger side as my driver door was jammed and assessed the damage and took off looking for my wheel and brake drum. Found em in the middle of an intersection and went back to my baby. I was pretty pissed, bummed, pumped, and scared all at the same time. I called my wife and told her what happened....I was only about 2 miles from home so her friend came and dropped off my jack and some tools. We tried to get a tow truck but got no damn answer(this little ass city sucks). Soooo I decided I was going to put her back together and see what happens. I had a spare pack of lug nuts and put the drum and wheel back on. Looked pertty straight and spun good, so I decided to limp her home. Made it just fine and went in to have a few stiff drinks and sleep it off. Now I am pretty sure I interrupted some meth heads trying to steal my wheels or some crap on the way out of Safeway. I say this because when I went in they were parked right in front in a pickup and as i walked in I saw them checkin out my burb. I didn't think anything of it cause I lock my doors and disable the ignition every time I stop, and lots of people check it out all the time anyhow. Sorry so long winded but it was pretty damned exciting. lol. Here are some pics of the carnage.

Re: Ahhh I almost rolled my Burb last night!
The good part about this is since I ground off most of my lower control arm im going to go ahead and order a drop member and finish my bag/notch install. Ohhh and long ass studs with all locking lug nuts!!
Looks like the hard part is going to be getting the door lined up again, as I need to cut that cab corner off and weld in a replacement.

Re: Ahhh I almost rolled my Burb last night!
Glad you're alright coolbus. That is a crazy tale....it sure caused a great deal of damage. Thanks for sharing the story and I totally get the part about people always checking out the ride so it didn't alert you, I would have been the same but not now after reading your story. Good luck with the repairs. Wish I was closer and I could offer you a hand or go for a cruise and find those dirt bags.

Re: Ahhh I almost rolled my Burb last night!
had something similar to your little incident happen to me a while back but less damage, just a fender, wheel well(beat the crap out of it to fix it good enough to use), and some studs & lug nuts.

Re: Ahhh I almost rolled my Burb last night!
I have some pics in my build thread linky is in my sig.
Sooooo I may be screwed! I got my door all lined up with the b pillar and drip rail up top.....but.... I have a 2 inch gap at the a pillar and front door frame. I banged out the rocker since I am replacing it anyhow and still no dice. My door is not lining up for beans. I think that when the truck landed on the cab corner it really really messed up the cab corner.

Sierra Vista is south east of Tucson down 90 off I-10. It has an Army base there called FT. Huachuca.
Just left there 6 months ago.... Smitty

Did you have full coverage? If so, this would be prime time for a claim.

Re: Ahhh I almost rolled my Burb last night!
no not really aside from my wheel coming off at 35 mph. Its a sad day but I did find a fair abount of rust that is making pulling that pillar back in a tad difficult.

Re: Ahhh I almost rolled my Burb last night!
Sorry to see this and glad you are OK.
Put it on a frame machine to check everything out overall, front to back. Maybe able to pull it into shape again. I mean 35 mph is moving at a good clip. Also, why not report it immediately to the police and ask Safeway if they have survelliance on that parking lot? Track down the perps.... |
