I have this pic that shows where a alot of people trim their lower control arms.

I will be using a 5.25" backspaced front wheel so i do not anticipate needing any clearance on the edge however I will like to trim the bump stop so it may be nice and needed to trim it the way it is in the pic on my bumpstop.

anyone else agree with this?

I cut mine off simply to make room for the airbags when deflated. I dont know of any other reason to cut these

I just drilled out the spot welds and knocked it off.

what about retaining the steering stop?

What is the wheel's diameter? 15", 17", 20????

Going to be installing a 20" wheel, so the edge is not a problem but a steering stop is still needed i think

Sorry, I should have been more clear. When I installed bags on my truck, I bought a kit from Air Ride Technologies that incuded steering stops. The installation instructions tell you to take them off for bag clearance (michael mentioned this issue as well). After the stock steering stops are removed, the new ones are bolted to the control arm and, so they say, Bob's your Uncle.

Here's a picture (not a very good one unfortunately) of the new steering stop mounted on the LCA. It is the bracket with the 2 bolts through it. The square item just above it is a bump stop I installed to limit downward travel when aired out.

That's my pic in your first post.
I like keeping the steering stop. Some people get rid of it.
I would also trim the balljoint area of the control arm,... just in case,... you have to throw on a set of ralleys or other 15" rims with a 4" (or more) backspace.
