97' Vortec in my 68?

I have an opportunity to pick up a 97' Tahoe for a good price. I'm needing a motor for my 68' and figured I could buy the truck just for the motor. I like the fact that it will have all the accessories, brackets, ect. I'm just not sure what I would need to do to make this a regular carburated motor in my 68'. I don't want all the electronics of course. Can I just swap out the intake and throw a 750 on it?

You can put a carb on it, but why? Pull the motor, harness, computer and drop it in. That's a great motor just like it sits.

Well, I figured it would make the install less complicated. If I used it as is I guess I would need the interior and engine harness right?

You can buy a vortec pattern intake and put in a regular [or HEI] type dist., get that carb and your good to go. You also could leave the injection on it and you would not have to use the other wiring by buying [or having the factory] a harness known as a stnd alone. With that stand alone harness you would only need to hook the vortec harnees up to some hots and some grounds. You will also need to have the computer[pcm] reflashed and also would need to install a efi pump and a fuel return line. Going the carb route is going to be quite a bit cheaper. Also with a carb on these motors they are quite powerful for a stock engine. It has been tested and proven by several magizines that the vortec heads can add up to 40 extra horsepower with no other changes. Hope this helps instead of just confusing. Jim

buy the truck pull the motor strip it down paint reinstall front stuff and drop an Intake and carb on it put it in your truck....then if you feel like it you can collect parts to switch it to the efi later..and sell your intake/carb.....

I didn't want the added complications either. Plus the additional expense for my pocketbook. Originally went back with all the standard fan, waterpump assy. Later upgraded to the serp system and electric fans. Besides the required electric fuel pump and intake for the carb everything else was used from the original small block for mine. Bolted a turbo 350 to my vortec. Your 97 is just a few years newer than what I used. I would do it again, I say go for it.
