Factory Tissue box

I think I might have found one of these in near NOS shape but I am unsure if it is correct for our trucks. Does anyone have a pic of the correct one as well as a going price I don't want to over pay

Re: Factory Tissue box

It's debated whether or not the one 70CST has is the absolute correct one which has GM on it, or the one with the bowtie is correct. I speculate the one with GM on the front would have been found in a GMC truck and you could get either the GM one or bowtie one in a Chevy. Trevor

Pics of the GM version is on this link of Tim's (Special K)
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=358492

The other version just has a chrome outlined bowtie instead of the GM. It can be seen in the 72' accessory pamphlet. Trevor

Re: Factory Tissue box

I would find one, but they aren't really good for a 4x4 truck because of less space on the hump. Harold (72 Super) has the bowtie one in his 71' Super. Trevor

I now have two (one green and one Black)...both are GM. I have never seen a Bowtie Tissue box. For example-Dealer CB radios had GM on the front and the eight tracks also had GM on the front plate. I have parts catalogs that show 3 or 4 fifferent 8 track versions for our trucks. Prices for the Tissue box range from $125-250 depending how lucky one is. I think these are hot tickets for the GM car crowd. As said...we may never know what is absolutely correct. Thats my story for now and I am sticking with it at least for now.

Do you mind sharing the 8 track versions with me? I am building one now, and I want to make sure what I am doing is correct looking. Trevor

Re: Factory Tissue box

correct would have been whatever the dealer had on hand. Like mentioned, these were not factory installed. If the all the dealer had on hand was leftovers from the 50's, then they would have mounted a big chrome one under the dash.

Re: Factory Tissue box

Trevor the 8 track depends on the the year more than anything else. To my knowledge, the GM faced unit is correct for 71-72 at minimum and was also used in cars as well. The earlier units had the bowtie on the door, as far as a third unit I have never seen another option unless it is a blank door unit. The Gm doored unit is what is demonstrated on the front of the truck accessories cover and I would consider to be the most correct. The GM door players are hard to find, but the speaker kit is impossible to find- they mounted in or near the kick vents. As far as the GM faced tissue dispenser, I have only seen the unit Tim had/has, the bowtie unit is the correct unit to my knowledge, but it as Longhorn man stated was also used in camaros, chevelles etc. a fit all if you will. Because of this the price for these units is crazy. As Dewayne said prices from $125 to $250 are to be expected as the going price. They show up on ebay from time to time but they go high when they do. I looked for one for over 10 years before I found the first one. As far as the question about fitting with a 4x4, yes it should fit with an automatic truck but if it is a four speed it will not work at all. I actually sold the second one I had simply because of this. I do know that pontaic, buick and others in the GM line had there own specific unit. They were the same box unit with a different sticker on the face. 8 tracks and tissue holders are grail type things, the key to the 8 track is the correct knobs. The truck used a small knob visible in the pic of my 71 Wynne posted. Member Rod had a unit several years ago that was correct but the knobs had been changed at some point and the asking price was at or near $600 without the speakers. Roger Koop is the only person that I know that has even seen the correct speaker set for one of these units and I would not even know where or what to begin looking for in regards to them. Good luck in your search and as you are discovering the accessories have qite a bit of flexability in the them. I always thought it would be neat to find the flare kit and the first aid kit that was offered. I have one of the kits that dealers gave away as promo items. The fire extinguisher would also be cool...

Re: Factory Tissue box

Harold, there was just one of those GM fire extinguishers on ebay last week. I think sold for $100 or $200 BIN. I have got a buick 1972 underdash 8 track player that I was trying to convert to a truck style, but the GM tape door is the part I cannot find anywhere. I also have a bowtie underdash tape player but I wanted the the 71-72 style for my truck. I had also heard that possibly the speakers for the 8 track could be the underdash speakers from a blazer. I have collected 2 of them just for this. I might have to yell at Roger at the next swap meet and ask him again. I might put that bowtie unit in the 70'. I don't think I want a tissue dispenser in mine though as I am already feel I am going over the top with accessories. I see the flare kit and first aid kit every once in awhile as well. I still want to get a compass though. Trevor

Now the fire extingusher I think I have. The one I have has the GMC logo on it. The tissue box I found has a lot of crome and the gold Chevy emblem on it . I may have to go get pics of it

Re: Factory Tissue box

Hey guys...this is very very good info. As far as knobs for the eight track...if I remember correctly the Oldsmobile used the same knobs as the trucks. I might be wrong... The two eight tracks that I have both have the GM door...you can get those on ebay every once in a while. They will normally sell from about $150-200. When I get home I will look at the 70 Dealers option brochure because I thought it showed a GM Eight Track...I think? I'll check into that. I was going to use the eight track with a dual in dash front speaker but I may not do that...time will tell. CB notes...they were black face and fake wood trim fronts. They sell for about $125-175 when they show up on ebay. I have some that I'll be letting go down the road. I have an NOS GM CB but I'm afraid to take it out of the box. Thats it for now.

Re: Factory Tissue box

Trevor, these were specific for 67 to 72 trucks...I use to have a pic but it was on my old computer when it crashed.
There was a board member years ago that had an NOS 8 track player and a set of the tape storage pods in the original GM cartons. Only time I had ever saw them.

Are you sure Rob, I thought they all interchanged. I just watched one NOS one that looked like the one I remember seeing for trucks. They are plastic or fiberglass with a bowtie on them with about 4 slots for 8 tracks. Trevor
