stripped upper shock shaft head.... easy removal?

this on an s10 im lowering for a guy. you know how you hold the square head of the top shaft with a set of pliers while you turn the top nut, well the squared off head to the shaft is completely stripped, whoever worked on it last must have completely FUBARed it. before i go throw on some locking pliers and strip it even more, anyone know an easy way to get it off?

I got a tool from the Mac Tool Dealer a few years back that screws down onto the top threads on a shock, (adaptors to fit any shock) and then you just snap the top off the shock rod. The nut, washer and rubber comes off with the tool. Then all ya gotta do is pull the shock out the bottom. Don't have a pic or I'd post it. The tool is way less than $50.00. Just my $.02 worth.

Snap-On makes several "sockets" that fit the tops of the threaded shafts on shocks. However, it appears that the socket would no longer be of use. Sounds like Vice-Grip time to me....unless you want to spend the $50 mentioned above. Sorry, but your customer will need new shocks when you lower it, anyway.

yea found out the truck came from ohio, wasnt native CA rust free truck lol. i managed to get one off my cuting into the shaft to fit a flat head screw driver in, the other shock i had to cut off.

so he ended up having to buy a set of old doestch techs i had. usually on an s10 you can get away with stock shocks on just a 1" coil so the orig plan was to use the stockers.
