Putting in an A/C Dash

I've got a 72 non a/c truck. How hard is it to put in a a/c dash. I allready have the evap and blower box.. I just want to know what all is envolved in putting one and get mine out. Thanks

There are a couple of ways you can do it.
1.) Remove dash pad
2.) There are 2 bolts on each end of your dash that you will have to remove. (remove them)
3.) Cut your steel dash along the slotted holes under the dash pad and pull it out.
4.) Take an A/C dash and cut it in the same place then weld it in where your old dash was.

The other way is to follow all the same instructions with exception of cutting the dash out and drill out all of the spot welds along the lower windshield lip to and remove the dash. The dash has a lip that is part of the windshield lip. WES

im pretty sure you can just cut your own holes and mount the vents you need which should be alot easier some one on here should have some templates

FWIW, I have swapped dashes, and cut holes to convert a non a/c dash. Cutting the holes is easier and faster.

Wow, I didn't know you could get a retro fit kit for these trucks that gives you everything you need to put in a/c in the truck. Has anybody put one of these vintage air kits in there truck? How does it compare to the factory system as far as look and performance?

I put a Vintage Air system in my '70 4x4 and wasn't super impressed with the install. Yes it works great in 100deg. heat with 10% humidity. I didn't think about the blower being noisy in the cab or that the recirculate only would be a concern in the winter. I can't take my truck anywhere when the temps drop below 25deg. The windows will not stay fog free!!!!!!! I'm not a rookie and have done everything within the systems capabilites and there is no way around it. Yes, the firewall is less cluttered with a flat cover. If you want a smoother look then you could build/ mold in some more attractive covers than is supplied with the kit, but it is a bolt-in as sold. Also IMO it is way easier to cut the holes as I have done both of my trucks that way, but I really think that having the doors off makes it easier too.

X2. Done both myself also, and Turp is 100% right. you can cut the holes close, then file or use a carbide burr to finish the holes out. Unless the radio hole is cutout, then I would do the dash, cutting along the slots. Good luck

I put a Vintage Air AC unit in my 69 truck. It was a pain in the rear to install.
I think they sell a center dash vent. Tell them you need a template too. I had to leave the dash speakers out. I put the speakers in the door. It will drive you crazy installing the AC. I put Vintage Air in a 50 Merc., 66 Chevy. truck, and a 56 Chevy BelAir. The 69 truck was the worst to install.

I'm glad to hear it's wasn't just me that had a problem with the cab fogging up. I leave the a/c on and push the temp to hot... keeps the windows clear but I only have warm dry air, not hot.
Not a big deal where I live (never gets super cold) but in Colorado....
