Guys with 13.5" Steering wheels look here
I just bought one and I want to know how much the 13.5" wheel effects steering ratio. Anyone that has one want to shed some light on the situation?

steering ratio?..
a smaller steering wheel doesn't have any effect... except it's smaller.

Really? I figured I'd go from 3.5-4ish turns from lock to lock (or whatever the stock is) to a little more from lock to lock.

Re: Guys with 13.5" Steering wheels look here
you'll be moving your hands a lesser amount... because of the reduced diameter, but it will still be 900 degrees or w/e or rotation.

Re: Guys with 13.5" Steering wheels look here
Oh ok, thanks guys. I feel like I'll be a lot more comfortable in the cab since I'm pretty big and I feel like the wheel is in the way. And plus this one is a lot thicker so it'll be more comfortable in my hands too.

Re: Guys with 13.5" Steering wheels look here
i just added the GT grant wheel (13.5) in mine and it's soo much nicer to drive now. more leg room, and i feel an increase in handling since the wheel is much more compact.

Re: Guys with 13.5" Steering wheels look here
It will make the wheel a little harder to turn because you don't have the same amount of leverage, but with the super powerful power steering in these trucks that's not an issue.
I like the stock wheel. I had a small Grant wheel before but the top of the wheel was directly in the way of the gauges.

I have a 14 inch camero four spoke wheel in mine and it is about the perfect size in my eyes.

Re: Guys with 13.5" Steering wheels look here
LOVE IT. you wont notice anything but how much better it is, the adapters can get kinda pricey, and be prepared to lose that horn, the horn adapters never work right for me.

Re: Guys with 13.5" Steering wheels look here
Haha installed mine tonight, the horn wasn't working right. It would honk with the button sometimes and one time it just stayed going with no button pushed.
I might wire it up to the buttons under the grip on mine (never seen that before but thought it was really cool. It's like NOS buttons but underneath the leather.) And I bought the cheap hub adapter, wanted the nice metal one but they only had the polished one and I wanted the black one. Last edited by qu1cks1lver56; 01-22-2010 at 11:50 PM. |

Re: Guys with 13.5" Steering wheels look here
I bought mine off ebay for $90 shipped and love it, much more room and more comfortable than the stock boat wheel.
I tried to post a pic but will not work for some reason. Sorry. |

Re: Guys with 13.5" Steering wheels look here
IMO 13.5in is too small for something as big as a truck.
The four-spoke Camaro wheels aren't too bad, they're about the right size. I found a good Buick Skyhawk T-Type wheel (same as the GN T-Type, etc.) in the pick-and-pull for $5 a few years back, it's just the right diameter to feel right in the Sub (stock ratio box, but I had it rebuilt by Lee Mfg with a 33oz/in spool valve) and it's got a nice fat leather rim. Bolted right on. |

Buick used the same wheel on a few different early-to-mid-'80s pre-airbag 'T-type' models, they're a bit larger diameter than most "sporty" steering wheels but have a fatter, grippier rim than the Camaro wheel. At the time I grabbed mine eight or so years ago you could find them in pick-n-pull-type junkyards, they seem to be rarer now. I think they were made in gray, red, and black; mine's gray. Hint if you do run into one and need to pull it yourself - only a couple of the 'socket-head capscrews' that hold the horn button cap on are real. Don't screw up the horn button assembly trying to remove the fake screws Last edited by JEM; 01-23-2010 at 03:32 PM. |

Re: Guys with 13.5" Steering wheels look here
Anyone try a wheel from a Z71 pickup? They seem about the size of the camaro one? I've been thinking of trying the Z71.
