Gettin`Into The Boggin`Business

NO PICTURES YET!!! Beat you to it

You won`t see us on TV,but my buddy and me have a truck he found and we just need to have something to let it rip in that we don`t need to get us to work. This depressed economy is making us itchy. We gotta do something!!We`re talkin`low-budget.It all starts with the Hugger Orange`72 K/20 Custom sitting in a building on an old farm site back a lane, through the wood and across a creek,so far back you`d think it was a road.
It`s a 350*4spd*4.57*No-Spin*Stock mud & snows*Older repair/repaint job.
Plans are to run street (36" max rubber).Prolly run Q-76 Buckshot Mudders or whatever they call them now.The rest will all come together.I`m thinking a locker up front, too. We`ll get all the drivetrain tip-top and see what simple stuff we can do under the hood...BEFORE WE SURELY MOVE UP TO THE 44" MAX BIG BOYS WITH MONSTER 572s!!!!!

Is this a street legal truck?
Or a strictly off road truck?

Re: Gettin`Into The Boggin`Business

Street legal. But,just for bogs. That`s what we`re saying. We just want it fun on a budget. It`ll prolly turn into swampthing wild.
We were hoping stock motor w/150 shot, but not allowed...oh well.I think the motor`s had some work.We haven`t had it running yet.Missing pieces.

Re: Gettin`Into The Boggin`Business

Tim, sounds like a fun project! I had a good friend that mud raced a few years back. He started out in pick ups and then built an awesome rail! It sure was a blast! The truck you found sounds like a great candidate for it too!

Re: Gettin`Into The Boggin`Business

I don't know how your mud bogs are out there but alot of places around here the best tires are tall and skinny 9r16 militarys 34x9.50 LTB or normal swampers I think there is a bogger that is a 35x11 I know there is a 38.5x 11 bogger Buckshots aren't really being made anymore except the 305 85 Its 36" tall.

If you go on intercos site right now they have some 33s that are blems not a bad price

Re: Gettin`Into The Boggin`Business

Hey thanks! I know the Buckshot Mudders are called something else now.Maxxis makes the 255/85s that are about like Q78s or 9.00s.We might not have the strength for Boggers.I want to start looking into some bogging sites and seeing what`s working best.I haven`t been to a bog in years.I even had a truck with someone years ago and used to run my daily drivers.

Around here tractor tires seem to work well in the straight bogs.

Sweet sounds like an awesome project. Nice looking truck to start out with as well. Going cruising up in the mountains and going mudding are 2 of my favorite things to do!

Probably 70% of the people run super swamper boggers with every other lug cut out. But in reallity if you are not looking for prize money (yet ) you can run about anything as long as the voids are big enough to clean out with good wheel speed.

As for the track, it is always changing. There have been days where everyone struggles, and days where it gets too dry and people are not able to keep their beast under control with the high speeds.

I know you want a budget street/mud truck so I would say get a lock-rite or aussie locker for the front, and lincoln lock the rear and let it eat.

I used to race there back in the 80's.
When the Eastern Mud Racing Association was still around.
And at Trailways speedway too.

The old bias ply Buckshots are still being made. I bought some P-78/15's last year.

Re: Gettin`Into The Boggin`Business

Wow Tim...this brings back some memories.
The EMRA would have a race every weekend. Sometimes two.
Kingsdale, Littlestown, Spring Grove, Trailways, The Buck....and a bunch up north too.
But my favorite place to race was the buck.
I ran the C class. Street legal, up to 35" tires, external engine mods only, Had to pull 14" of vacume. They would measure tires with a yard stick off the ground and look at the numbers on the tire. So we ground the numbers off the tire and let air out of the 36's so they measure 35".
The next year they caught on to us and made a big set of calipers to measure side to side.

They figured you fart smellers out, huh? It`s 36 now,at least.I wish they`d allow nitros. How about hiding a bottle behind the dash, run the line inside a heater hose, block off the coolant port, route it under the intake, and into the plenum from down there...HUH?...BUH WAAAAAHHH!!!!!
