Not an expert on these, but did have a 55 2nd series carry-all with the same or very similar set-up. V8 was factory Pontiac as well. Sharpie

Re: What's this from?
The column looks like photos of 55/59 Columns on the net but the wheel is off something else unless it is some special edition wheel. It rather looks like a 60 something car wheel missing the horn ring.

GMC 1/2 ton, 55-59 maybe 60. Don't sell that for less that $500. Its a very rare setup in that condition and being that complete.

Re: What's this from?
54 starts with the hydromatic so it could be from 54-59

Re: What's this from?
GMC started with the Hydramatic in 53, but not with that wheel

Re: What's this from?
Well i can say that i have a 55 and a 59. That wheel is the same as the one in my 59. My 55 has a different style wheel.

Re: What's this from?
this steering wheel is for 1957 thru 1959 55 and 6 had the fat bars. 1960 is different. this is the wheel i like best for task force it has a nice depth.
the earlier ones are really flat. i think its pretty rare being an automatic with the fact. turn signal. |

Re: What's this from?
its from a 1957 to 1959 gmc truck. not the same as 55.2-56 and not the same as Chevy. the wheel is standard 57 to 59 wheel. The Hydro tranny shifter quadrant is the same as pontiac from the early 50's. 500 bucks is a bit high as I just bought the same set up plus shipping for 200 bucks and it was not nearly as rusty.
You will of course need all the special linkage unique to the dual range hydros(Six is diffrent than 8) the trans mission fly wheel cross member, yoke, starter and drive shaft to go with it Oh and the dual range hydro tranny.and reguarding the above shopping list: six is different from eight And survice manuals and special tranny adjusting tools to adjust the bands every 10 to 12 thousand miles. Rebuilt tranny's go for about 1700-2500 bucks not including the core and shipping back and forth for a 400 pound transmission. the wheel and horn button are nice. It would be a shame to destroy its value to restorers. Its unique to 57-59 gmc's. Its niether correct nor finctional in chevies or suburbans. Since its not correct nor funtional in your truck why not get an aftermarket set up that will work and save that column for restorers. If whats his face backs out of the deal for 500 bucks I may be interested. PM me. Last edited by mike16; 01-26-2010 at 10:44 PM. |
