tail light ideas

hi im 22 and rebuilding a 1983 chevy c-10 step side and im gonna use led's for the marker lights on the fron fenders, flush mounted, now i was wanting to do something different for the rear , for the tail lights, im useing a roll pan, and a few ideas i came up with were 1. frenc caddy lights into the stake pockets,2.lay the caddy lights on there side and put them in the roll pan and 3. use the stock lights and brackets, and just lower the brackets from stock location on stake pocket, to as low as i can go on the stake pocket, what do you guys think? and if you have any other ideas for the caddy lights, or any light really im open to suggestions thanks and i hope youll help me out and show some pics thanks guys

Re: tail light ideas

someone did that recently to a step side if you check or search it you may find that. Corvette lights in the roll pan are also popular.. and ive seen some people use those LED lights that are on the back of tractor trailers
Are you doing any other body mods to the truck? Ive seen another newer truck with a 53 nose thing on it and the bed also had those kind of tail lights on it

Re: tail light ideas

Theres are alot of options with taillights. Have you thought about a LED Taillight strip thing.. they look cool when there molded into rollpans or tailgates.

Re: tail light ideas

thanks for the fast replys, im not a big fan of the vette lights in the roll pan i just dont like it, the only other body mod im doing is putting a cowl hood on, im leaving the door handles and locks, not emblems on the fenders, lowered it 3 inches in front and 5 in the rear, im gonna use either the american racing torque thrust wheel or the american racing hopster wheel thats bout it, the inside is getting a custom touch to i guess, getting a saet cove made for the bench seat, different steering wheel and the ash try insert welded shut to hide any swiches, so ay other ideas for the lights id be great full thanks

Re: tail light ideas

Those Impala lights look nice. I'm just not a fan of the the caddy lights. When you stick them on a slab sided truck the just don't match because they are curved to match the body of the car they came in, and the truck has pretty straight lines. Also since you are sticking with the less modern looking wheels I think that any new style tail light will look out of place.

This was recenyly posted by Frank Monroe. I think it's one of the cleanest caddy install I have seen due to the mods made around the lights. LINK

59 Caddy "Bullet" taillights are a good looking option when placed right.

Re: tail light ideas

ok thanks again guys, i kinfa like the impala look and the lights on the flat black truck, just not sure yet, im trying to change the truck but leave it look like nothing was changed, if that makes sence, what do you guys think of the idea of the flush mount marker lights on the front fenders? im useing the stock grill the came with the double stach head lights, and the turn gignals behind the grill, just a new one because mins is pretty bad, im not gonna use tailgate chains, nice chrome front bumper, a cowl hood, the sport mirrors, flush mount marker lights, exhaust exits under the step on each side, fuel cell under the bed a roll pan, and just stuck on what tail lights to use, and i also need to have a reverse light, so any more ideas im open to them and any ideas on wheels as well im open to thanks im i apprecate the help and info i really do

Re: tail light ideas

I thought of the 50-54 tail lamps. It gives the old school look. Or I've seen some pretty small yet bright LED motorcycle lamps.

Re: tail light ideas

It only takes a few LEDs to put out some serious light. I have 2 per side on my bike.

Somewhere there are pictures of a stepper with '67 mustang tail lights turned 90*, First gen Camaro tails turned 90* both mounted on the fenders. 80's El Camino bumper with tail lights mounted in the bumper.

Re: tail light ideas

I'd say stick with LEDs for the rear if your using them in the front fenders. I would go for the 1 light bar with white, amber and backup lights in one. Or the sequencing LED taillights with separate turn signals. See here... http://www.watsons-streetworks.com/leds_plus.html

That would be sweet!
