Question how to tell if my 68 is a stock bb

i had a posting similar to this but asking what the cst came with, now i am trying to find out how to tell if it is a stock bb or not, could be a stupid question but i am willing to hear that if i can learn something, this is my first classic truck so i am trying to get educated. i dont have the info on the backside of the glove box door, and if it was a bb it was swapped to a 454 and 700r4 (which is mean i might add). i tried vin but all i could seem to find is if it was a v6 or v8. thanks for any help.

I could be wrong but I don't think 68's came with a 454. I think that may have started in 69, or maybe that's a different engine I'm thinking of. But I do know they didn't come with 700r4s. So that's not stock by any means. Do you have a picture of said engine?

without the spid it maybe hard to tell. i would pull back the carpet or mat and look for a high hump. pretty sure all factory big blocks had a high hump. but this could have been changed at some point.

sorry if any confusion but i was saying if it was a stock big block then they pulled the 396 and put in a 454 along with a 700r4, i do know they didnt come with 454 stock would have been the 396. i know i said i was new but i still tried to look around and got somewhat speed up on the truck before i bought it. do you think i could go to a GMC/chevy dealer give them the vin and they could tell me what it came with. i just want to know when if it came stock as a bb

Only way to tell for sure what v8 it came with is the SPID on the glove box door....

well thanks for the help, i just cant seem to win on finding things out about this truck without the SPID. o well i guess, ill just keep wrenchin and keep truckin. once again thanks for all the input. and for holding back on any comments about my post. im just trying to see if what i was told about the truck is true, but beings as all the parts that were sent with the truck just arent seeming to fit for me i am starting to wonder. i love the truck either way though

Re: how to tell if my 68 is a stock bb

Maybe you can find the build sheet in the seat springs if the seat is original. It is a long shot.
Is there a heat shield on the pass side floorpan underneath for exhaust? Does it have a remote cannister on the inner fender for power steering fluid? Possibly dual exhaust brackets underneath? Maybe a few clues there yet. Good luck...
