Please help planning a possible 72 build.

hello I'm new to the site but have been following some nice build threads because I am looking at a 72 as my future project. I like to plan things out 1st so I can acumilate parts and just assemble the truck. I currently have a 350/350 turbo that I will use for drive train. Looking for local back yard trucks have several spyed just haven't hitem up yet.

My starting base can be a junk yard 72 still has the discs and calipers and good rear. The cab is ok but needs inner and outer rockers. The floors or solid. The yard also has a stepside bed box ( I would have to buy some fenders). How low can I drop the truck with a spring swap only? I currently have a set of rally 15x8 wheels and will probabbly run 275/60 or 295/50 15s al the way around.

The beginning project will be kind of ratty but cool with the finished project being a stock body (black) with removed gas neck, lowered and nice wheels (size unkown)

In my mind I'm picturing black 72 stepside power steering and brakes we could have picked up in the 80's lowered and added a set of wheels to. Very basic, but clean.

Any help would be welcomed.

The maximum static drop is 6/8 springs blocks and spindels

Well I'm trying to get a feel for how much drop with out replacing the spindles and rear trailing arms. Ihaven't found a hole truck and want need to get the frame and cab with disc spindles if I'm going to have to buy spindles then I would just grab the new calipers and rotors from the parts store after I bought the drop spindles. I could find an older truck with a little better cab or cut down a long bed and add the step side.

check my build........its bagged but even that can be done cheap if you have the ime to shop and don't mind up grading as you go along..the nice part is you never have to go back to redo things

Looked at your thread nice work. I don't want to go with bags but I really didn't think you could use a truck like your pics show after installing bags. I was impressed. But I still want to use springs or cut the springs in the truck. The trucks I've found that have close to the stance I have in my mind all have drop springs and spindles along with aftermarket cross members and trailing arms. I don't want to go that route either if I can cut my factory springs and make it work.

4/6 Drop with 235/70/15's on rallys...

let me give you the down dirty way to get the look you want

cut 1 full loop off your front springs
put TJ jepp springs in the rear

after this your going to need drop spindles and to put in a c notch

DO NOT HEAT OT CUT YOUR REAR SPRINGS

Well I guess 4/6 was what was on my mind. I can remember a green 72 stepside man it was sharp sold to a guy in TN in the mid-late 80's it came from Hamilton, AL and was lowered, but back yard style heated the coils and let her drop. Checked around and there is no such thing as a cheap 4/6. Thanks for yalls help 4/6 it is. Now I just have to acumilate some more parts like say a cab, rails, bed,etc.. but the plan is comeing together and so is the grocerie list.

Thanks for your help I will probably start out with this method 1st and then move to the final look of a 4/6.

that will = pretty close to a 4/6...if you want more drop you can go as far as 1 1/2 loops off then add drop blocks on the rear
