Re: Mecum Auction 71 4x4
I never here anyone talk about Mecum here.I guess they don`t hold auctions on Speed. That`s one sweet truck.Too bad theycan`t even describe a $43,000 truck right, thogh. No respect,I tell ya.It`s a Cheyenne Super not a Cheyenne.Would they call a Boss 302 a Mustang or a Z/28 a Camaro?Maybe they should also know it isn`t a`70 or that there were no Cheyennes that year anyway.
I guess the buyer doesn`t realize it`s a`68 cab, either.I sure wouldn`t pay all that knowing the truck isn`t authentic.Maybe it`s a`70 4wd with a`68 cab and 71/72 Cheyenne Super trim.Definitely not authentic.Someone`s gonna be Pee o`d.You`d think for all that money they could peel the bar code off the washer bottle.

Hey Tim,
What is it about the cab that you know it's a '68? I am always in the mood to learn. Mark

Re: Mecum Auction 71 4x4
Emergency Brake is the early 67-68 style.

Re: Mecum Auction 71 4x4
Wrong seat covers for a Cheyenne Super bucket seat truck too.

Re: Mecum Auction 71 4x4
It also has a non-suspended gas pedal which is found in a 70 back as is the rear view mirror being mounted to the cab roof instead of being glued to the windshield. Still a nice truck though. makes the value of my 70 increase.

Re: Mecum Auction 71 4x4
I caught the cab/emergency brake thing...wasn't sure about the seats. Good observation, and I'm always impressed by how much the people on this site know about these old trucks.
One thing I would find very interesting to know...How much money do you suppose was put into that specific truck to generate a $43,000.00 sale price? I guess I've always like to play with my toys, i.e. drive them and not keep garage/trailer queens, but it's impressive to see a reconditioning job of this caliber (aside from the obvious errors).

Re: Mecum Auction 71 4x4
71' is also the only year for the raised pad (I believe) on the cab roof that the rearview mirrors mount too. Trevor

Re: Mecum Auction 71 4x4
Trevor`s eye is better than mine.I just focused on the e-brake and never even noticed it had bucket seats. What he`s saying, for those who`d like to learn and don`t already know,is bucket seats never came from factory with houndstooth or any other cloth...only in CST/Cheyenne vinyl.
There`s nothing that makes that truck worth that money because it`s a thrown together fake.Where`s the SPID?I wonder how deep the charade goes.Is it even a factory 4wd?Is it just a cab swap or an earlier 2wd body on a 71/72 frame? If it was an authentic correctly restored truck is the only way it could ever be worth that money. It`s just put together from different trucks, mix matched and more repro than original. It`s missing original parts like heat deflectors on the manifolds, etc. It wouldn`t even qualify as an original at a car show. It`s a catalog truck.A very nice one I`d love to own and worth about $15,000-max IMO.

Re: Mecum Auction 71 4x4
Yep, somebody with more money than sense got jobbed on that one. It's obviously a nice truck with lots of money in the restoration, but I agree that it is a 15k truck. Think about this-- there were at least two idiots bidding against each other for that Frankenstein creation!
