Honda Bobber

I did this a year ago or so, but I had a lot of fun doing it and learned a lot too. This is my second bike ever. And the first bike that I have ever worked on or built by myself.

My first was a '06 GSXR 600. Well I got sick of making payments on a bike I could never ride due to work and whatnot. I really miss this bike.

A few years later I picked up this one.

A 1981 Honda CM400 C. It had been sitting for 5 plus years without any attention. It was one of those deals that was too good to pass up. I really wanted a 750 to build, but those were hard to come by at a good price at the time. Anyways, I had always wanted a rat bike, bobber, cafe racer, etc. I started working on getting the bike running first and it didn't take a whole lot to do so. I think it has less than 10k original miles. Once I got it running, I decided it was worth messing with. I did almost all of the work myself. And just so you know, I did this with no garage, no air compressor, and a gravel driveway. The paint isn't great...as it is just a rattle can job. And the bike isn't perfect, but it runs great and is alot of fun. I get looks everywhere I go.

But I am thinking it is time to let this one go. I want something with a little more guts. But it is kinda hard to let go of something that you put so much time, money and effort into.

Re: Honda Bobber

I need to do something with my 750. Been wanting to do a cafe or a bobber, depends on what day you ask as to what its going to be. I sold the little orange 400 twin last year. It was a good little bike. just not enough guts for my rotund self. Jay

Thanks. Well get back at it!

I am proud of it. It's not the nicest bike, but I like it and I built it. Not many people can say that about their bikes. And there isn't another just like it.

Thanks. I agree.

I wanted to do a 750 too but I didn't have the change for one of those. The CB750s are very common to turn into bobbers. And there is a ton of upgrades and aftermarket stuff for them too.

I had a guy on a harley pull up next to me the other day and kept looking at my bike trying to figure out what it was. Haha.

Re: Honda Bobber

I wonder what my 80 KZ750 LTD would look like bobber'd. it sure has some guts, I backed off at 130 a few years ago and I smoked a 2001 WS6 last summer. it now has a trunk and a Vetter Windjammer.

I love that bike man! You did a hell of a job on it! I'd ride the wheels off that thing, but I can understand wanting a little more go.

I appreciate it. Yeah. The weather has been really up and down here so I haven't been riding it much. When I am not riding it, I wanna get rid of it but as soon as I get on it and go, I don't.

Re: Honda Bobber

Damnit, now you have me looking on eBay.

A couple of years after I graduated high school, I used to work part time at the Honda/Kaw/Suzi shop to support my four wheeler and motocross habit. The entire back of the shop was packed with 'ugly' bikes like this and I didn't even give them a second look. I probably could have picked them up for next to nothing, but ten years ago, you wouldn't have caught me dead on a Honda 400! Oh well, hindsight is always 20/20

Re: Honda Bobber

Well, she is officially for sale. I haven't posted a for sale thread yet. I'll get to that tonight or tomorrow.

I found a vehicle that I want and this needs to go to help out with that purchase.

Gonna let my bike go for a no haggle price of $2500 FIRM. I'll even throw in a nice cover, and a battery tender for it.

Also, I am heading to the east cost this month and can deliver it along the way if someone really wants it. But I would need a deposit ahead of time.

Re: Honda Bobber

stop by and we can run for titles. LOL

I have thought many times about modding mine but I like it just the way it is. plus the $75 I paid for it 5 years ago is cool too. this summer I will be installing a CD player and fabbing up a way to hold a couple fishing rods. "Honey, I'm going for a ride. I'll see you in a couple days."
