Vanishing miles

I went to my salvage sale on wed. and found a 99 s-10 blazer. The blazer caught my eye because it wasn't hurt that bad [tailgate back glass and two taillamps] and my wife used to like them and then I could put her 05 silverado up for sale. The Blazer had 87182 miles when I looked at it in the preview before the sale started. I bought it and when I went to drive it home the miles did not display. I was and am sure that the miles were lit before and when I got home I looked at the pics of the units in the sale and they always show the miles if they light and this one did. My thought is some scumbag did something to this blazer so someone else might not see the kinda low miles. Can anyone give me a direction to look for the problem? I quickly looked at the fuses did'nt see one missing . I did'nt check the fuses with a test light thats next. Anyone? I have owned hundreds of s-10's and never had this. Any help is apprecaited. Jim

Re: Vanishing miles

Thats a good one and honestly I don't really have any advice to help you, but here are some questions that may help someone else with a diagnosis.

Do the miles display when you hit the button with the key out?
Does the tip meter show?
Does the speedo work accurately?
Are there any lights on in the gauge cluster?

You may also concider searching the S10 section.

Re: Vanishing miles

The only place mileage is stored is the gauge cluster and if all the other gauges work then its the gauge cluster. Here is a place that rebuilds 03-07 clusters, maybe they can help you. Good luck.

Re: Vanishing miles

Before you have someone way off look at it. Call some salvage yards. I was talking to one about my cluster, and they gave me the name and number of a guy that was like 5 minutes from me. Saved a lot of time and hassle shipping it somewhere out of state.
