Steering Stabilizer Help

I'm looking for a factory oem stabilizer for my '69 K10. I've swapped out the factory axles and have installed a set of disc brake axles out of a '72. The '72 axles has a tab welded on the axle tube where one end of the stabilizer mounts with a large threaded bolt/stud. The other end of the stabilizer mounts to the steering/tie rod with a clamp and ubolts. The stabilzer that I took off 2 years ago now looked like a traditonal shock with eyes on each end.

Here's my dilemma. I have called (2) Off Road Shops/Distributors and haven't had any luck locating the stabilizer I need. The first company actually has a picture of one on their website, but they can't confirm that's the one they have in stock. I then called the manufacturer (Rough Country) and they basically told me the same thing. Their actual comment was that their warehouse was in a different building from their sales office so they couldn't be 100% positive what stabilzer I'd get if I ordered it from them. SAY WHAT?!?!?!?!

I then tried my local "4x4" shop and explained to him in detail what I needed. He told me he knew exactly which stabilizer I wanted and that he had installed several of those style stabilizers. So I give him the green light to order one. He called me Friday to say that it had came in. Well when I go by to pick it up I had my doubts that it would be the wrong one. When I got to the shop I find out that they hadn't even opened the box yet to verify that it was the correct style. The owner tosses the unopened box on the counter and we open it together just to find out that it the wrong one. I was aggravated to say the least. He then offered to order one from Rancho, but he couldn't guarantee which style it would be. All he had was a part number out of a catalog to go by. So who knows what it'll look like.

Anyway, I just want the factory stabilizer to put back on my truck. Is that too much to ask? Here is a picture of the stabilizer I need (first picture). The second picture shows the one like the local guy has. It'll work but not with the factory mount.

So can anyone please point me in right direction of where I can find the correct/oem stabilizer for my truck? Or at least give the name and number of a reputable 4x4 shop that would be willing to help a potential customer.

I think skyjacker makes one. I actually have the same setup as you but bought the universal one. I didn't realize until after I got under the truck that I had a factory mount.

Looks like the part is 7055 and I found it at summit.

Thanks for the help, but even this one mounts different according to their instructions. Mine actually mounted to the tie rod using (2) u-bolts and this one mounts with a bolt/stud through the tie rod. I attached a picture from their instruction sheet and circled the mounting area for a reference.

Have you tried calling them directly to see if they have another part?

It sounds by your description that I have the same set up as yours(didn't know it was factory,tho). Maybe if the number is stamped on the stabilizer I can get it for you, I suspect it is a Rancho, since the PO put that on for shocks

No, I didn't get a chance to call them today, but I should have time tomorrow. You know it shouldn't be this hard to find a simple stabilizer.

Mine says Rancho on it, but numbers are to beat up to decipher, seems to mount up like a conventional shock w/ one eye on each end and a stud going thru them

If ya need better pics just ask

Thank you Sir. That's the style that I'm looking for. At least now I know for sure that I'm not the only one with that style. See, I'm not crazy.

my setup is like your second pic, so im of no help. my shocks on the stabilizer have:

Rancho
1121
P5082
per the Rancho Techline, replacements would be part # RS5402, so you dont need the RS5402

maybe give Rancho tech support a ring and see what they show for a '72 k10 (734.384.7804), and any replacement #'s best of luck.

I called Rancho back. if Jaros can get you a measurement (collapsed and expanded, by turning the wheel lock to lock) they can hook you up with what you need. I am guessing you still have the mounting hardware etc. he mentioned the style you needed were probably RS5404 - 23.875 long, or RS5406 - 30 1/4 long. he said the shock series #'s increase as the length does.

Thanks for your help Heath. I'll be calling Rancho and Skyjacker today. I guess if worse comes to worse I could hit the junkyards for the brackets/studs or just place a "wtb" on here. Once I had the parts I could just order a shock I guess.

Thanks Heath. I guess I was typing my last response when you posted this one, because I totally missed it. Thanks for calling Rancho. I just hung up with Skyjacker and they think the one Greg mentioned above (7055) would work with my old bracketry. The thing is I'm not sure I have the old brackets. I guess I'll be digging through all of my old parts tonight.

The first parts kit would work if it had another stud included with it. The second picture "looks" to be the correct setup minus the brackets. I'm running by the local "4x4" shop at lunch to see what they ordered from Rancho. If that's a bust I guess I'll be parts hunting this afternoon when I get home.

Well, I was rather embarassed by the condition of my stabilizer, so I pulled it off for a coat of paint, a decal, and a new boot. I looked it over very carefully, and could not find any numbers, but I could give you demensions if needed as my67chevytruck suggests. Good luck to you Sir! Post up numbers if you get that far, as I'm sure others will need them

After further investigation and calling Rancho, part number on my stabilizer 1123 supersedes to RS5404

Ok, drum roll please.........



I went to the local shop during lunch to see if what he ordered from Rancho was the right part or not. As soon as I walk in he tells me it's not the right part. Needless to say I wasn't surprised. At least this time he had already opened the box to inspect what he ordered before I got there. Anyway, while I was opening the box he told me that it had everything including the studs, but it was missing the brackets. I'm thinking cool I can work with this. In the back of my mind I thought about this dude on a Chevy site named Heath that hooked me up with a link, from Summit, for a Rancho stabilizer mounting kit.

Below are the specs and a picture on the kit that I have. (FYI, Rancho shocks are now painted silver instead of white.)

Sweetness..... Dan, the tech with Rancho was very polite, and helpful. In all the research and cross referencing, he was spot on with RS5404 , or RS5406 stating in that order. Glad to see you are past this hurdle Shannon. Now i know what i need when i replace my front axle..

Hey guys, I know this is an old thread. I just got off the phone with Skyjacker and the Tech basically told me I am an idiot. He has personally done thousands of these trucks and they ALL have the tapered tie rod hole and my truck is all jacked up. But he is going to send me the part I requested to keep ME happy. Mighty nice of him.
What is needed is the #7055 steering stabilizer with the included parts mounting bags and 1 additional #140629 EB6 Stud bag-P932 (only one of these included in the 7055). This is the straight mount stud for both the axle mount and the clamp bracket for the other end.
I am preparing a letter to Skyjacker as I type this. It will include this thread because of the dialog and pics. Thanks.
