alarm systems
what kind of alarm systems do people use on c10s. do you have to have power locks? ive got a c10 without power locks.
I havent looked into alarm systems much for these trucks but maybe someone could give me a simple straight answer. thx

Re: alarm systems
Im researching this now for a GMC 3500 that I just restored- no power locks either. Remember that any alram is just a deterent for amateurs. If someone really wants your truck, they will get a tow truck. Just need to be careful where u park. Thieves study a cars parking routine. Dont always park in the same place.
I m putting in a GPS tracking device and an alram w/cutoff to starter + remote starter. Also have a steering column lock. Probably going with a Viper alarm. Just make sure u find a knowledgeable installer. |

Re: alarm systems
I've got a viper 790xv in mine. has the 2 way paging system.
I installed aftermarket power door lock actuators into the truck. The door panels don't have the switches, but the remote will lock and unlock, along with the ignition locking or unlocking the car depending on the switch position. |

Re: alarm systems
Viper. My truck has power door locks. Doors lock when armed. Unlock when disarmed. Doors lock after a few seconds of powering on the key. This feature will lock you out if you forget about it!! Doors unlock when the key is turned off! Love it!!

Re: alarm systems
I worked in a car audio shop for awhile when I was younger and the from my point of view the best you can buy is from DEI, DEI makes the viper alarm, and they have other companys like python and hornet well Im not sure if there still around or not its been awhile.. but I bought a python befor I quit working there in 98 and it still works to this day....they make great car starters too, I put them in my mothers my grandmothers and my aunts cars when I worked there and they are still working to this day..... If I remember right viper was the top of the line, not being that is was better it just had more options then it was the python then the hornet......But DEI is the way to go

Re: alarm systems
The best insurance you can afford is better.I drive a repo tow truck i can take anything in under 30 sec and not get out of the truck.I have towed cars with the alarm screaming in the middle of the night no one ever looks out.I'm honest and don't steal but others do.A gps is ok but most good theif's can unhook it or cover it with brass wire mess so it don't work.

Re: alarm systems
i agree with a viper. had one in mine and it did everything, door lock, windows up, remote start, etc... it would warning beep and page me if someone was even looking in her. kind of a pain when it was really windy though. overall a GREAT alarm for piece of mind.

Re: alarm systems
old school your one of hundreds of people i have seen say that. i too repo cars and people never seem to realize how heavy they sleep. 99% of the time people dont wake up unless i beat on there door to get the keys. if you drove it in there i can get it back out with the tow truck. can you rise from a dead sleep and get out of bed,get your eyes open, figure out whats going on, get your gun and be coherent enough in say 10 seconds? if so you dont have a chance at stopping anyone from taking your truck and remember its parked where it cant be had with a tow truck i will come back the next night with a key park up the road and walk down your driveway get in it and drive it away. anyways back to original post. car alarms are pretty well pointless at this point. people are so used to hearing them go off they dont even look outside anymore.I set alarms off every night even right next to the house and people never come out no lights come on etc.

Re: alarm systems
I agree too. Even when I was a LEO, we ignored them! But I did install alarms for about 10 years. There was more than one lady that I installed a system for with a pager that mentioned how fantastic it would be to know if someone was trying to steal her vehicle while she was shopping somewhere. My canned reply was "for hundreds less, you would know the same thing when you came out and saw it gone!"
My best system? Good insurance, hide the valuables, and leave it unlocked. That way they won't have to jack anything up to get inside when they take it!

Re: alarm systems
Due to the fact that alot of people just totally ignore alarms (like in NYC) some places have outlawed them. You cannot legally put an alarm on a vehicle here that is loud, doesnt shut off within a few seconds and I believe one that doesnt make certain sounds.I dont even have an alarm in my new car.If youre really worried about theft a lojack is prolly the best right now but im sure that the thieves have that all figured out how to bypass too. Any anti theft is only as good as the thief that steals your car
