Re: What is a c clip axle??
The axle shafts are retained by a c-clip. If the axle or rear breaks, the entire wheel/axle can slide out of the housing. C-clip eliminators use safety hubs that are bolted directly to the axle housing.

Danged if I know. What are the particulars for your truck? I imagine someone here can tell you if you have c-clips or not.

What year truck. Most likely you have a C-clip. Most GM axles are C-clip

Re: What is a c clip axle??
Moser doesn't recommend using the C-clip eliminators on the street. The turns and flexing of everyday driving supposedly puts a lot of stress on the eliminators and causes them to leak over time. But on the other hand if you have a lot of power and snap an axle with C-clips there is nothing holding the wheel on the vehicle therefore letting the tire, wheel, brake, everything slide out and cause you to lose control.

Re: What is a c clip axle??
A clip works only one way in any type of rear end that uses them. Its there to hold the axle in that is it.Its the same on a 10 bolt a 12 bolt open lsd locker etc etc.

Re: What is a c clip axle??
I'm no pro at this but isn't there a stamp on the rear axle that should tell you what is in it?

Re: What is a c clip axle??
[here is no such thing as a "simple ring and pinion swap". It may look like a "bolt-in" type thing, but it just is not that easy. It takes some special tools, not the least of which is a press. It takes quite a bit of patience too. It is really not worth the investment in time/effort and tools to wrestle with learning....for a job you will probably only ever do once.]
Im not going to try to change them myself. I want to buy the gear and get them done. With the motor i have now i can spin the tires with the 3:08s. Its a peg leg though so there is only one tire mark on the street lol lol.. Last edited by shrtbx; 02-05-2010 at 01:57 AM. |
