Tachometer, 2004 z71
Hey guys. I'm wondering if I'm the only one having this problem. It's been pretty cold and snowy here lately, and on cold mornings the tach doesn't ready correctly. It reads about 500-800 too low. When the engine warms up, I can shut it off and re-start it and it read correct. I know it's not a critical issue, but it bugs the crap out of me... anyone else experience this? Anyone know the fix?

That may be a stepper motor problem....fairly common in guages that read badly. My oil pressure sometimes reads 80....when I shut it off it goes to 40 and stays. Then it will be fine for a week before it does it again.

04s and 05s are notorious for gauge issues. There was a recall on them,but if you have more than 70,000 miles, it doesnt apply. Mine hit 72,000 the day I got the letter from GM. Now Im stuck rebuilding in myself with a junk yard gauge cluster. Otherwise its a $400 fix

My FIL had this same thing happen to him about 1 week ago. Waiting for the part to come in and GM is going to cover it.
I recommend contacting your local GM dealer and see what they can do for you.
