speed warning speedo/dash

I've come across a dash with the speed warning buzzer in it. Its a manual choke dash without tach. The guy is asking what maybe too much for it, I know they are rare but what are they worth? I only ask to make sure I'm over not over paying for it.

Re: speed warning speedo/dash

does it come with the correct wiring harness and/or the speedwarning buzzer? the buzzer is a $75-100 dollar item in itself. a repop harness is $20........ as a fyi.

if:
1. the speedwarning parts are all there
2. there's not much rust on the tins
3. the speedwarning mechanism turns freely

I have seen them anywhere from $300 to $450 for a perfect example. they aren't cheap, but man, oh man are they cool!

if you get it, make sure you post pics!!!

Re: speed warning speedo/dash

what were they actually used for? To keep someone younger from going over a certain speed? Does it buzz the entire time you are over the set speed or does it just buzz when you hit it? and why are they so cool?

Re: speed warning speedo/dash

if you set it for 55 MPH, as soon as you hit it, it buzzes with a fairly loud and annoying buzzer, and it will continue untill you slow down.
People want it becouse it's kinda neat and becouse no one else has it.
Personally, if I found one for cheap, I'd buy it to resell, and never to install.

Re: speed warning speedo/dash

thanks tcb-1

everything looks to be there (cable, buzzer etc.)and rust looks to be at a minimum. It is all original. The guy has had it for years and of course knows what he has.

and like you said its just cool.

well, I personally think they are cool because of the rarity and the fragility of it's mechanism. guess that's the engineer in me.

the buzzer would activate when you reached the set speed and would continue until your speed dropped below that set speed.
