Not sure if the pictures will work, but this is my attempt at a tail light filler. Thanks to HuggerCST for a great idea

I wish I could take credit for the idea, but I stole it from HuggerCST

Only took me a week of vacation time!

I bought the cap from Hagan Street Rods, but I know I've seen them other places.

Nice job! Can you give more details? How much did you cut the bed? How did you fab the hinge? Also, I've seen those gas caps at local parts stores and truck stops.

Re: More tail light filler

On the surface where the taillight bucket mounts, I cut away just enough for the 2" filler pipe to fit. On the inside stake pocket, I did the same, only lower, once I figured the angle of the drop.
As for the hinge, I just welded 2 "ears" to the bucket, and used machine screws. They act as a swivel. I then had to grind a notch out of the inside of the lense to clear the screw heads.
Sorry, I should have taken progress picts.

Re: More tail light filler

Very nice work! And thanks for the credit, but I have to pass credit to Yank and a couple more members for giving me the idea! I think if I keep working on my design, and make just a few more, I'll get it right, lol. Here's what I've been doing lately. It takes a lot more time than you would think to build these things, doesn't it!

Re: More tail light filler

It would have been easier with one of your pre-made "guts", but I just took the "trial and error" route!

Not yet. I'm trying to get a few together, but so far I'm too slow at building them to make it worth doing.

Nice install Dave!

Wynne, that would be an ultimate product if you could find a way to get it built quicker. Product of the year...

Very cool idea! Do you use magnents to keep the light assembly shut? Or a spring?

Re: More tail light filler

Idea is awesome, I have been imagining doing something like that for years just never sat down and put it to work. Great minds think alike! One suggestion I might input, if you dont have the mean to produce, why not get a patent on it and then sell the patent to one of the fine forum vendors that have the resourses for mass production? I know there is enough of the demand for it, I'd take one for sure!

PS. also with that design do you have to fore go the tail light bezel or can you still utilize it?

How about making patterns and selling them.

Guy buys one, lays it out on his sheet metal, cuts and welds it together and wala he can say he made it??

Sounds good anyway

Re: More tail light filler

I thought the one huggercst did he only cut inside of taillight box? You actually have to modify stake pocket etc also? I am trying to do something with as little cutting as possible. I want the outside and inside of bed to look completely stock, other than the tank filler of course. I have my blazer tank installed now and trying to decide where to fill it.
