What to do with the hole if I relocate the fuel tank - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Anybody know a way to cover the old filler hole if I relocate my tank to under the bed? I don't really want to weld and repaint right now. My truck is my only vehicle that is already shiny.

Is there any kind of a cover or ?????

i'm using duct tape right now. works well for a temp fix. i'm just using it over my marker light holes and antenna hole. ugly, but effective.

You could just cut the neck off your original tank and leave it in place till you decide to fill it. Stock apperance outside, room behind the seat inside!

I am going to cut the neck off my in cab tank and put it back in with a new rubber gasket untill I do the paint.

just be sure to block it off so you dont forget and fill your cab up

Can't remember where I saw it, but there was a post from a member that could possibly help you.

He had made some of these and several people wanted them.

Please fill the tank with water before you start cutting so you don't blow yourself up

Get some kind of chrome emblem and stick it on both sides so that the one on the drivers side covers the hole! Not that I would ever do anything half way and try to hide it!

Yep I was a certifed welder for a while and did side jobs for extra cash. Welded a mower deck on a push mower once and being in a hurry didn't think about the gas tank when I had it on its side untill I seen the fire.

Well needless to say I lost money and some hair on that job had to buy a new mower. Now I am very carfull about fire.

Stick a billiard ball in the hole into the rubber. Seen it, worked well.

I took a old gas cap and placed it in the rubber boot then tied wired it down tight so water can't get inside cab, been like that now for two years, waiting to get truck painted again to have fixed.

I found a plate on a c-60 that had prongsin it that cliped onto the rubber seal and had a bar across teh back and screw holding it ll together.... I got it round here somewhere..

i too was looking for something to cover up the hole on my drag truck and when i asked about a factory delete people started acting like they were a great rare option, whatever. i used a large freeze plug from doorman (automotive hardware company) looks cool! Dev.

Thanks for all the great ideas guys! Efabman's approach is the best, of course, but my welding looks like a chicken crapped on it. I think I'll go with the cut off original neck or the billiard ball idea.

In fact, the billiard ball is a great idea. Of course I will feel guilty about stealing one from the local pool hall, but I'm sure I will get over it (Just kidding!).

My truck is bright red, so I could get the red solid ball to fill in (number 3? my misspent youth is fading away in a haze).

Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
