Redline on a 327
Just installed a new Autometer Artic White Tach. Just curious what the redline is for a freshly rebuilt '66 327?
Specs: .030 over, .262 Comp Cam, 1.94 Camel Hump heads, Flat top pistons, 9.5:1 compression, edelbrock 650, edelbrock performer manifold, HEI, speedway trurams, saginaw 4spd

Your rods, crank, and balancing determine your redline. And the cam what are the rpm ratings of the cam? Generally the shorter the stroke the faster you can spin it. I have seen a 302 (The 67-69 Camaro motor) spin at 9k with lots of horses. But it had a huge cam that was barely streetable and was not making power until about 4k. Sweet motors, tiny stroke. They are rare.

I think any hard shift above 4500 or so might trash that saginaw....With a cam like that, it should be plenty safe for 5500-6000 RPM. Cam will tell you that, look up your cam specs.

the performer manifold also will hold the rpm back. i think they are rated for like 5500rpm. a performer rpm is good for low 6000's.

heck i've twisted a stock 350 to 6500 regulary, just droped a 68 327 in my 64 6500 should not be a problem just don't tack it to hard for a few hundred miles let it break in

I would say 5500-6000.
My 327 has 1.94 camel-backs, Performer RPM, Edelbrock AVS 650 carb, 224/224 cam, 10.5:1's... It spins up to 6500 pretty easy. Plus it looks cool to see the redline on my tach set up that high.
