Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I have been looking for an affordable swb fleetside bed for months around here to no avail. Now i have came to a point where i am thinking stepside. So the choices are 88-98 stepside or 67-72 stepside. I personally think the 88-98 looks better, but i have a chace to buy a nice 67 needs only the new wood.

To me... the later model truck beds don't follow the lines of a 67-72 truck at all... but... some people like them.
I personally would look for a 67-72 stepside bed. again, that's me though. Gary

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I hear you, a short bed fleet in good condition gets 1500 or more.
New bed sides are expensive, but atleast they are available! Nothing in this hobby is cheap thats for sure, especially in this economy. Good luck!

I don't care for the late model beds on the 67-72 trucks. I would stick with the correct bed in my opinion...

If it were me, I'd go with the 67 you found and replace the wood.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I did see a 88+ bed on a 67-72 last summer at a car show locally, it was very sharp!!The lines matched pretty good and it looked nicer than I thought it would, in fact it was my favorite truck at the show. Go figure.

i own a 68 and I was in the same position you were and decided to go with the original stepside. I am glad I did as I get a lot more compliments then a friend that went with the 88-98 bed.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I'm for the correct yr model bed also! However I did see a pic of a yellow truck on here and the wheel surround on the late model bed had been changed to match the 67/72 wheel openings. Now that look good but thats the only time I've seen anyone do that to the wheel surrounds. jmo

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
Same here, I really think the newer bed kills the truck, but to each their own. If it was mine I would go with the 67 bed.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
Go with the correct bed... otherwise you'll have an old truck with a new bed and even people who don't know about these trucks will think something is "off."

Totally agree. The original bed is the only one that belongs.

Original bed style all the way, I really think the ones with the 88-98 beds look pieced together.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
Before I went with a later model bed ( with those fenders) I'd put a flat bed on there but that's just me and I wouldn't stop looking till I found a correct bed to put on there; however if I found a later model bed at the right price I might pick it up with the intent of fitting earley fenders and steps on it. I think you'd have to fill some holes in and drill some new ones to make it fit.

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
Go with the old one. As long as the rust moths haven't got to it. I understand your plight, having grown up about 100 miles north of you. Some one on the forum posted a pic of one of our trucks with a newer bed. Normally I don't like this mod but this guy re-did the wheel openings to match the front, and that made it look alright. Just my .02

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
I would choose an original bed for sure, but this truck is sweet!

Re: Which stepside bed looks the best on our trucks?
My truck prompts a lot of questions everytime I stop for gas. "What year is it?" followed by "that ain't the original bed is it?" I like the late model bed, but I bought the truck with it already on there. If I had the option during a build I would likely go with an original step side.
