Lq9 stock intake tube
Does anyone know what the apendage on the underside of my lq9 intake tube is for? My gm mechanic friend thinkes its to supress intake air noise? I want to remove it but won't if it will hinder performance.

Re: Lq9 stock intake tube
Im not 100% sure, but I would agree with him, I think its just a silencer chamber to curb intake noise. All the aftermarket intake systems eliminate this "chamber" and use a straight flow tube whenever possible. I would just purchase the Airaid MIT for the vehicle you need and go for it, or you can just make your own tube.

Re: Lq9 stock intake tube
I am using the stock intake tube to clear the stock clutch fan and hoses.

Re: Lq9 stock intake tube
It's just for noise cancellation, you can cut it off without causing any performance issues, but you will probably find out that nothing is going to stick to the plastic that the tube is made of, so patching the hole won't be as easy as you might think. Personally, I'd leave it, you can hardly see it on my truck, or do as suggested and get an aftermarket one.

Re: Lq9 stock intake tube
Just looked up the Airaid mit tubing and that could work also. Thanks again for the responses. I did not know about Airaid!

Re: Lq9 stock intake tube
eh just put an eletric fan on it and go for the cheapest aftermarket intake you can find. easy to set up and you can blame it on the persuit of power.

Re: Lq9 stock intake tube
I would leave the stock arrangement from my experience as well, I have had my fair share of problems with non-factory electric fan set-ups, and (IMO) they CANNOT pull the same CFM that an engine driven fan can pull. The Airaid stuff is very high quality and I used to sell the crap out of it at my previous job, you wont be disappointed.

Re: Lq9 stock intake tube
I used my stock radiator on my ls swap and purchased a 95-98 v6 f**d contour Mur***y mistique dual fan ( new $100, used $30.), a dual fan controller (Torqflo # 733647 ( orielly $35.00). the dual fan will pull 3400cfm, better than most electric and all mechanical fans that I am aware of, and no hp robbing.

Re: Lq9 stock intake tube
Sorry to hijack, but where can you get this fan new for $100. Thanks. And I used the tubing from intaketubing.com also for my 5.3 conversion.
