grille support panel / header panel

I notice that the reproduction parts list these as being different for different years.
Does anybody know what the differences are?
Is it due to the different grilles?
Can they be cross-matched? That is -will a '63 version work with a '64 to '66 grille?

All of the Chevy/GMC truck grille supports for the 1960-1966 years are virtually the same, but they have different hole locations to accept the respective year grilles. You must drill new holes if you are putting a different year grille on a different year grille support.

Re: grille support panel / header panel

If I'm not mistaken the '63-'66 grill panels should be the same. The '60 &'61 should be the same, and I'm not sure about the '62. The GMC's are different than the Chevy grill panels. I believe there may be a change within the '60-'66 years of the GMC's as well. Of course this is manily regarding the mounting holes for the grills. It seems like there may also be a difference in the contour behind the headlights for the 4 headlight models versus the 2 headlight models.

Re: grille support panel / header panel

It is quite possible to put a four headlight grill on a two headlight grill support panel. All the grill panels are essentially the same except for the holes used to mount the grill, as Tony said. I had three different grills on my '63. I used the original, a GMC, and finally a '61 Chevy grill. The two non-stock grills both required holes to be drilled to mount the grills (different holes for each grill).

Re: grille support panel / header panel

Those pics are intresting and not very accurate. I know the holes are different to mount the grilles and if you look at the early years 60-61, not sure about 62 the frame cut outs at the bottom are different. The later years the cut outs are much larger.
