Re: differences in LSX engines?
The difference is $$$$... If you can find a decent deal on a 6.0 or 6.2 that's where you want to go.

i better get this right so Bob doesnt come in here and chew my arse... lq4: 6.0, 320hp, most are iron block & aluminum heads, and dome shaped pistons. you can run '87 octane in them. found in 3/4 ton trucks, vans, denalli, etc. lq9: 6.0h.o., 345hp, iron block aluminum heads, found ONLY in esclades. they have flat top pistons and recommend 91 octane. lm4: all aluminum 5.3, rated at 295hp. found in trailblazers i believe. lm7: 5.3, 280-295h.p., iron block aluminum heads, found in tahoes, trucks, on and on... most popular. millions made. ls1: 346c.i. all aluminum. 305h.p. found in fbodys, vettes, and '04gto's. ls2: 364ci 6.0, 400hp all aluminum, 2nd generation of the ls1. found in vettes, gto's, tbss... this is a basic generic run down of the differences... all ls base motors have 6 bolt mains. the ls1, 2, 3, etc. are over priced. they charge an "ls tax" when you buy one wish i had more time and could go into more detail but i have to get to work. i'm sure others will chime in here. this is a good thread! i'll edit any mistakes i made when i get home tonight and btw... there is an awesome book called "how to swap an ls motor into anything" with detailed discriptions of all the motors.

Re: differences in LSX engines?
Bigzz what you will find out that will probably most influence your decision is convience. Your fisrt choice might be a 6.2, but if you have to pay to ship it across the country, then the value goes away.
The 5.3's are a great motor and of course the most common. If you do all the work, they can be swapped for a very afforable price. If you plan to build the motor, it's besster to start with the biggest you can get. With pure bolt ons, the 6.0 is capable of 500hp that will run on pump gas.

Re: differences in LSX engines?
I was looking for the differences the other night and I ran accross these sites. I was contemplating doing the LS swap too. I love the 6.0L in my Trailblazer SS. It has 395hp stock and really fun to drive. I can't imagine what a short bed would feel like with that engine.

Re: differences in LSX engines?
I saw a store on ebay that had lots of them. Their store name was
just chevy trucks. Very resonable as well. And once you drive a 5.3 or 6.0 powered truck you'll forget all about the 305 vs. 350 thing.

Re: differences in LSX engines?
The LT1 and Vortec have almost nothing in common except displacement. The Vortec heads use the combustion chamber desigh originally designed for the LT1 heads but other than that and a couple interchangeable parts they are nothing alike. If you do a Google search for LT1 vs. Vortec you will find TONS of info.

Re: differences in LSX engines?
You can go to the public GM website below and look up GM Powertrain engine details and summaries back to 2003.
The “Story” download Word document will outline primary changes. There is a link for car and truck engines and archives back to 2003. Some engines are basically the same but use a different RPO codes due to the changes in the package to fit a certain vehicle. For example, the LH9 5.3L in the Colorado/Canyon is essentially the same as other 5.3L engines like the Silverado/Sierra LC9 except for special manifolds, oil pan, HP and torque ratings. The certified rating of a LH9 doesn’t necessarily mean real world power is any more or less power than a LC9. It is all about certifications and meeting regulations within a package and GVW range. http://archives.media.gm.com/us/powe...10truck_us.htm Many people don’t realize that GM Powertrain is its own separate company within General Motors. GM Powertrain is a powertrain supplier just like Cummins or Cat being they sell engines (and transmissions) to other automotive companies for use in non-GM vehicles such as Suzuki, Daewoo, Rolls-Royce, Navistar, Tugg, Mercruiser, VolvoPenta, Hyster, etc. When Chevrolet builds a truck they actually have to "buy" and engine from their sister company GM Powertrain. It is crazy and keeps their accountants busy moving money from their front pocket to the back.
