Master cylinder Paint

What have you used to paint your master cylinder and booster pump?

I don't know what everyone else does but I have an old, cast master cylinder reservoir that I'm going to try gun bluing.
Any thoughts on this?

I know it is not actually the correct original finish but I painted mine with a Cast Paint...

Eastwood Co. just came out with a paint made specifically for master cylinders and boosters.

Depends on what your booster is for color. A/c Delco's were cad plated, while the other brand (which slips my mind) was black. That is the 2 colors from factory. Trevor

x 2. I have it on the master cylinder and every other engine part in my daily driver. 4 years later, it still looks new.

I have some POR and love the stuff. I thought the brake fluid would eat it. I will give it a try. Thanks BTW I have a Bendix.

I sprayed mine with clear paint to keep the cast look without rusting.

I used Por 15 and I had a leak now the paint is gone on both ends of the Master cylinder so I personally think It does not stand up to the task Brakefluid is some strong Sh##. Now I believe Tx Firefighter had mentioned he powdercoated a couple of them with good results. you might want to look into that I think thats what I might have to do..

Powder coating is great. However, it took me enough time to get the brakes right that there is not way I am taking the thing off my truck. I like the idea of clear. I will have to see what I am in the mood for on the day I decide to do it.

Unfortunately I had to clean and paint the prop valve since I can't coat them.

+1 POR wrinkled up on mine, but I was pretty careless about the brake fluid. Still, I would like to see something that is impervious.

I have heard that "wrinkle paint" is impervious, but never tried it.

I use the Duplicolor's Engine enamel and it works great for the master and calipers since it has ceramic coating added to it.

Now that you mention it, I do remember reading that ceramic-based coatings will hold up. Again, haven't tried it.

On my 71 project everything is new and I used silicon fluid. Don't know if you can flush and fill or not but it won't peel paint.

Might want to think twice and do some research before you commit to the silicone fluid. The "resto" people seem to like it - most likely because it helps avoid "oops" drips = damage on expensive paint jobs.

When I went to stainless lined bores on Vette disc brakes many years ago, the 'experts" that sold me the calipers almost insisted that I use their pricey silicone fluid. I thoroughly cleaned and flushed every last line and component (denatured alchohol) and went with silicone. Some time later, when leaks started and I wound up going through all four calipers and the lines, I found cruddy/grainy/goopy stuff in there. Called the "experts" again down there in Florida (the stainless bore guys) and they said "Oh yeah, we are familiar with that problem" and then informed me that they had "changed their minds" about their silicone recommendation and that I should go ahead and use regular DOT whatever. Of course, they also offered to take all four of my goopy/messy calipers and send me four clean stainless type rebuilds (again) - for a VERY hefty price. After that experience, I am running DOT whatever just as in all of the other Chevs/GMCs here, that do not leak and are clean.

My son painted the booster with base coat, clear coat paint. I painted the master cyl. with black engine paint.

I used cast iron colored paint from O'Reilly; the vendor is escaping me... turned out great and any touch up I needed to do was easy.
