just crashed my impala ss and thinking of swapping it on my 64. but have no idea were to start. any ideas.

They will be your best bet to start with.

man, sorry to hear that. my original plan was to put the LT1 from my wagon in my sons truck. decided to go LS instead tho.

I believe the LT1 still uses the three bolt SBC motor mount? But I could be mistaken.

I just put a 95 SS LT1 in a 63. The straight 6 engine mounts bolt right up. All you need to add is a tubular trans mount unless you have an auto already. Then I think it may be just sliding it back. At that point it's physically in the truck. The remainder comes down to plumbing wiring and a driveshaft. These are the steps I'm working on now.

I've chosen to strip down the harness myself rather than spend 400 bucks on somebody's plug and play version.

I'm going to try using the caprice tank hung behind the axle. The other option I looked at was a large semi filter as a remote sump and a 2 external pump system allowing me to reuse the trucks stock tank. (Google search for EFI Ford Broncos.) That's where I was looking at parts for that.

For cooling I'm looking at a stock camaro radiator like most of the guys on here seem to lean toward. (The impala one won't fit.)

The rest of it seems pretty straight forward.

No offense but the LT1swap.com seems highly lacking in info to me. Then again I've had the LT1 in and out of my car a number of times so maybe I covered the basic on my own already.

I should really start a build thread of my own. I hope to get the truck indoors this weekend and so I'll be able to start making progress again.

LT1 is a second gen sbc. Your swap is easy. remove all water and vacuum hoses, electrical wires, and transmission. unbolt motor. pull motor. insert lt1. work in reverse until you're burnin rubber

be interested how well that fits. if this winter wonderland ever goes away. there are a couple caprices in a local bone yard i was gonna go measure for this.

I have one in my '79, and I really like it. Brendan at LT1swap.com is very reasonable on his PCM tunes, I plan sending him mine when the time comes. Mine was started by someone else, I bought it as a project with a rats nest of wiring. If you can lay the harness out first, it should become pretty apparent which wires can stay or go. Download the PDF instruction manual at the Painless website, that will help it make a lot more sense too.

Hotrodlane.cc is the website I used when I put a LT1 in my 67. Street and Performance in Mena, Arkansas has done alot of these. I have one of their LT1s and a 4L60E in my truck. It is wicked fast. And believe it or not was pretty straight forward once you got the wiring right. They have the wiring diagrams online. One thing of note though is that I had to put a late model Camaro radiator in it. And used the water hoses that go with it.

If you are not going to run the A/C compressor (or are going to use an aftermarket A/C bracket) you can use the same mounts as a normal SBC. The right side has to be moved back to clear the stock compressor.

I'm running an AC delet pully and I notched the frame to clear even that with the B-Body accessory brackets.

Mounts are stock I6 location I6 rubber. No modification neccessary. On the transmission end I have a Bowtiebits Tubular Crossmember. I went with them because they're just up the street from my house. It's like shopping at a regular parts store.

When I get that figured out I'll let you know. I'm trying to keep a pretty tight budget so I may play with the B-Body cable I have.
