factory box behind seat?

I just baught this 79 K20 and found this box behind the seat. Who can tell me anything about it.

The truck is a bit odd anyways. It has a wooden bed as well as auto windows with manual locks.

Thanks for your help.

Re: factory box behind seat?

Welcome to the boards. Glad to have you here.

I haven't seen a box like that, but seems very practical. Sounds like you may have a little bit of a rare truck there. Do you have any more pics of it, and is the spid sheet on the glovebox still?

The spec sheet is still taped to the glove box. I'll try to make a copy of it when the snow stops.

Re: factory box behind seat?

maybe it's not factory then. I'll take a much closer look at it to see how it is installed. I am the 3rd owner. The first two each had it for 15 years and they both seemed to leave it like it came from the factory.

That's good! That way you don't have to fix a lot of the PO's work.

Here's what the truck looks like

The running boards and mud flaps won't stay on much longer.

Look behind the cab, you might see screws coming through. I doubt anyone would pull the bed to mount that properly with nut and bolt (and washers and sealant).

Re: factory box behind seat?

I have one in the garage ( I didn't like the idea of drilling thru the back of the cab with screws to mount it ) I bought at a yard sale. Its nice to keep things locked up and / or from moving a round. Also can't fit a speaker sub box behind the seat with it. I never really figured out why the holes are there and what would be so useful about those??

Re: factory box behind seat?

I have similar and used 2 sided 3M tape to install mine. Found mine on-line DeeZee product
if I remember correctly, had one with a lockable area too.
