cant find any straight answers 700r4

Ok i got a 700r4 to install in my 86 c10 2wd currently has a th350 but what on earth does the wire connection on the side do. i have heard its a temp sensor and speed sensor. I've also heard its a torque converter lock out but i really need to know so i don't kill this trans.

sitting in front of the 350 is a nicely built small block 400 that seems to be a whole other world to its cousin the 350

please help these trans scare me

Re: cant find any straight answers 700r4

you dont need it if you do a dummy lockup converter. you can still utilize the 4th gear. or painless performance or tci makes your converter lockup work in 4th gear only by plugging in the plug and locking up through vacuum.

You need one of these, if you don't already have it.

Re: cant find any straight answers 700r4

the small 4 pin connector on the driver's side is for tourqe converter lock up, if it has another plug on the other side it is a computer controll'd 700R4E . I ran a 700R4 in my V8 s10 with out the TC lock up hook'd up for 4 or 5 years with no problem's . with a little research you can find how to hook it up with out buy'n an expensive kit . one thing to remember ir that the 700R4 is as long as a "long" tail shaft T350 which I believe is what your truck has .

thanks that's what i needed looks like i need to get the adapter for my edelbrock and get the tv cable and dip stick tube. Luckily i do have the dash indicator so it says p r n od d 2 1

as for the lock up was thinking of using this http://www.bowtieoverdrives.com/cata...php?ITEMID=332

And it seems i don't need the steering column? from a 700r4 truck thought that would throw things off guess not

as for drive shaft got one coming from where the trans came from

thanks looks as if i might have this figured out (i hope) thanks for the help

also the trans is a 1991 trans

The stock driveshaft presently in your truck will work perfect I did swap on my 86 with TH350c and driveshaft was right length.
