Need Help with Mangled Windshield Top

Hi Everyone,

As you can see in the photos posted - I have a mess to fix and was wondering if anyone could take some really good shots of what the inside top of the windshield actually looks like, i.e. which holes go where and for what..?... I have been debating on whether it can be fixed or not as it is rusted bad in some areas or should I just get another frame (very hard to find) and have someone weld it back in place..? Whoever had the truck before me did not take very good care of it but I am trying to save it within my budget... If anyone has any suggestions then I am surely listening... My major concern with welding another frame in is the structural integrity afterwards.. With the top on, there will be pressure on it and I would hate for it to collapse while in transit... If some of you have experience with this kind of situation, please share what you did to resolve it.. Thanks in advance...

Jump over to the 69-72 first gen subforum, there is at least one prior thread on replacement of that area of the frame that will assist you. Here's one thread that will help link

Replacing it VtBlazer did is the way to go (if you can find a frame). But for reference here are a couple of pictures.

Re: Need Help with Mangled Windshield Top

Thanks Everyone,

You guys are awesome.. That's exactly what I was hoping for were the measurements.. That will give us the option to just install a new metal piece all the way across and then re-drill the holes out for now.. We can do the frame swap at a later date after I can locate one and some funding builds up... Right now, I just want to get the engine bay welded up and painted this coming week and then we can begin the engine/trans install...

Great pics Alien... I owe you one..

Re: Need Help with Mangled Windshield Top

Also,

If anyone comes across a windshield frame by chance or know of one that is in good condition at a reasonable price, Please PM me directly as I do not want to break any of the rules here regarding buying and selling.. I am here in Calif so hopefully it will be close as transportation charges can get crazy... Thanks..

Those pics were given to me by somone else. I would double check the measurements before cutting or welding something.. With what you have left in yours and those pictures you should be able to tell if it is close or mot.
