Help with gauge reconnect

I need some help with checking and reconnecting my stock gauges. 1987 Silverado, with and engine swap prior to my purchase. The only gauge that works is the volt meter. The previous owner installed a gauge cluster below the dash but only the temp is working there. I have no experience with working on these gauges. I know the basics but I have no idea where to start correcting this.

What info do you experts need to help me out? Where can I get a diagram of the original setup?

The cluster has the speedometer and fuel gauge for the two large ones, and volts, temp, oil, and blank for the 4 small ones.

Re: Help with gauge reconnect

Is the factory harness with the plug that goes in the back of the gauge housing still intact or has it been cut up?

The 2nd pic shows the aftermarket gauges and connections, the 3rd pic shows the only things connected on the stock gauges.

Re: Help with gauge reconnect

I am assuming all the factory connections are in place so it must be the sending units. The factory din plug is in place, the speedometer cable, and the little green box are the connections that are existing. Are these all that are needed? There are some cut wiring behind the cluster and I am not sure where they lead.

Re: Help with gauge reconnect

Do you have a pic of the cut wiring or can you tell us the colors and how many wires are we talking about?

Re: Help with gauge reconnect

Correction on the unknown connector, it has a single black wire. Anyone have any idea where these wires go?

I traced down the original wiring for the temp and oil sending units. Replaced the temp and works fine. Question about the oil sender. The top sending unit by the distributer is an off/on type sender for the idiot light right? I plan to put a new sending unit above the oil filter and extend the existing lead down to it.

I am still having problems with the speedo, fuel gauges, and high beam light. The speedo works but jumps erratically and is about 10 mph slow at 70. The fuel gauge works but stays above the full mark, any ideas on how to correct these? All the bulbs are good in the cluster so the high beam problem must be in the wiring somewhere.

Thanks for any help.
