Re: anyone ever use a aftermarket column shift linkage ?
The rod linkage works perfect. I have a 700 R4 in my truck and was able to dial in the shift indicator on the column. Hope this helps.

Re: anyone ever use a aftermarket column shift linkage ?
I replaced a rod-style linkage on my truck with the Lokar cable linkage and it works awesome. Relatively easy to install and you can route the cable pretty much wherever you want so it is out of the way of exhaust, etc.

Re: anyone ever use a aftermarket column shift linkage ?
I just installed the type in the bottom photo in my 69 and it took a lot of the slop out of my auto column and works good, easy to install.

Re: anyone ever use a aftermarket column shift linkage ?
I used the rod in the bottom picture but it is in drive when the shift window says neutral. I couldn't adjust that out, its like the arm on the tranny isn't long enough even though it is adjusted all the way out.
Maybe I installed it wrong somehow... |

Re: anyone ever use a aftermarket column shift linkage ?
There are 2 different size shift rods offered. Sounds like you got the shorter one. The longer one is needed with our trucks.

Re: anyone ever use a aftermarket column shift linkage ?
I used the longer rod from Kugel Components Kit #KK002 and it was just barely long enough. I only have about 1/2 inch of thread in the ball ends and I hope that is enough and Kugel said 23 1/2 from end to end was all that was available. Just installed it so can't say much more, but I hope it works down the road.
Also at the trans arm you have to install the rod at the end of the arm that attaches to the trans, called the "long stroke" on your column. |

Re: anyone ever use a aftermarket column shift linkage ?
I used the cable style Lokar and hated it. I ruined my powdercoat on my column and figured out it wouldn't work, so now I have a bare spot on my column. The problem I had was that it never seemed to "lock" in a gear. It just seemed to slide through the gears. It never had that definite gear engagment like a rod style linkage does.
