4x4- 5.3/4L65e conversion -Need info on Trans link & Headers

Hi All,

I tried searching the threads for my particular project (72' GMC Jimmy 4x4) but did not find any exactly like it.. I have read though that some folks are having problems with the Lokar Billet control arm version VS. the cable operated one in regards to selecting other gears.. ie. 1st, 2nd & 3rd..? If any of you have the metal arm version and do not have any issues I would like to know or see how you installed it... Or if you opine that the cable one is the way to go as well...

The other issue is the headers for this fit.. I don't have enough money right now for the expensive Doug Thorley ones used specifically for this swap but has anyone come across a set that will work without having to cut into the frame..? If so please share the name... I have seen several folks cut into the frames but that is on the regular truck model and not the 4x4 I have... Perhaps they are different and no cutting is involved.. Looking forward to hearing from you.. Thanks..

Hooker "block huggers" don't require cutting the frame. That's what I originally ran.

Thanks Boostat.. Were they specifically for the 5.3 or just the reg block huggers they have made since infinity.. LOL... I would hate to order the wrong one because they might not let you return them..

Yes, they are for the 5.3L. They also fit the 4.8 and 6.0. Don't get the old gen 1 version, won't work.

Well, thanks for pointing me in the right direction.. I actually came across a set of Sanderson block huggers for $350.00 locally and they were even ceramic coated silver which is what I wanted anyway so it worked out... Still working on some ideas for the trans mount...

My biggest issue right now is brackets for the frame to mount the engine onto.. Apparently no one makes them.. CPP had 2 different kinds but they were for 2WD, not 4x4.. I sent emails off to several other companies including Pacific Fab which was referred to me by TheAlien so I am still waiting to hear back from everyone.. for now I am stuck..
