Spare tire

I just bought a bastardized 67 c-10. When i looked under the rear of the bed i noticed there was no spare tire, and no provision to put one. The p o had installed a tow hitch that bolts to the frame and has a bar running through the area where a tire would probably hang. The bar is welded to a crossmember behind where i think the spare should go. The rear crossmember was nothced for clearance and the removable part of the hitch would have to go through the license plate. I guess at one time the truck was run without a rear bumper because the one on it partially covers the opening for the hitch. All of this trash is leaving the vehicle. How can i mount a spare?

Re: Spare tire

There was also an optional in bed spare tire mount
It mounted in the bed towards the front on the drivers side.

Re: Spare tire

Did the in bed spare tire have to be mounted in any particular location? I have seen them in the rear and on either side.

Re: Spare tire

I have had two trucks with the this factory option and this is the spot.
Also shown in this spot in the factory assembly manual.
But I guess you can move it to a different spot.

Re: Spare tire

I was looking for tailpipes and one of the pictures showed pipes runnung to the rear bumper and it showed a tire in the area where a lot of people mount a blazer gas tank to get it out of the cab. I thought maybe this was a factory location, but the bed sounds so much easier. Thanks
