Project Zeus.. 63 Chevy Stepside C10
Ok so Ive decide to make a catch all thread on this project. Welcome and sit back for the slow ride haha.
Currently as of 2/22/2010 the cab is off the bed is off and the frame is deundercoated and in need of sandblasting. This past weekend i took a trip to nebraska for a buds wedding and on the way back i swung buy lmc truck and looked through all there sheetmetal and found some good replacements. Now my Goals for this truck. Removal of all old rusted sections with new metal. Frame sandblasted and painted with Por15 Black Cote i already own. Body and bed painted with my Dupont Corlar Epoxy to seal all bare metal and give it a nice flat black paint job till i decide what color im painting it. Converting from 8 lug drum to all 5 lug disc. Installing my old ls1 engine out of a 02 trans am and a 6 speed trans. Deciding on if im going to make a custom air suspension or just fold in and buy drops. Im after a good drop but im not wanting to slam what assumes to be my future daily driver. Deciding on if im going to keep it stealthy or go more exotic like a bright metallic lime green or a bright pearl orange. Going from small rear window to custom large window. Chopping probably 1 to 2 inches off the top. Custom cherry wood bed. im still shopping for the wood. Bed mount gas tank. Power Steering. AC Cruise but retaining the old style steering wheel and shaft. Shaved door handles with hidden backup latch. Possible suicides. havent decided if i want that look yet. Custom hidden sound system. Possible 2 tone interior once i decide colors. Now for all the pics begin'n till present. Last edited by Strykerta; 03-03-2010 at 10:50 AM. |

Re: Project Zeus.. 63 Chevy Stepside C10
ok the last pics are of some of the parts i brought back from lmc and in the middle there are some shots of the new metal i welded on to the body mounts off the frame they had 2 inch wide rust holes where the body mounts mount. now that i have plenty to keep me busy there should be updated photos of each panel i redo before and after. im going to try to be as thorough as possible.

Re: Project Zeus.. 63 Chevy Stepside C10
thanks parts guy! and im wondering if youll change your mind after seeing all the other closer photos haha. i love challenges. honestly if someone offered me this truck and all the parts to redo it or a truck with it all completed id be in the situation i am now. im the type that when spoken the phase.. " We can do this the easy way or the hard way!" i would just get i big smile on my face. hah

Welcome to the forum
Looks like you have a bit of work ahead of you. At least when you're done there won't be any question if you have a solid cab or not. Are you going to get the cab blasted also? It's so much nicer to work on a clean blasted cab for sheet metal repair.

Re: Project Zeus.. 63 Chevy Stepside C10
ahh now we have bandwidth without all those photos loading up...
update currently im using my needle gun to remove all the undercoating off the bottom of the cab. trust me if u ever want to get that off the only things to use are a needle gun or blasting compound and alot of psi. whatever they used stayed on for 50 years and still doesnt want to leave. |

Re: Project Zeus.. 63 Chevy Stepside C10
Almost have the passenger side of the cab in new metal hopefully I have all the joints aligned right. Its pretty difficult rebuilding a lower cab with not much metal there to use as a template. I ended up putting the door back on the side to make sure the rocker panel was straight and it looks good thank god

Re: Project Zeus.. 63 Chevy Stepside C10
a pic of the new metal on the passenger side i had to kinda of custom bend the rear floor panel to fit the same bends as factory you can see at the back a gap im needing to still fill with metal. slowly making headway.
and if u wonder why i didnt leave metal around the pillars to mock up the new ones. this is after i cut all of that out to put on the outer rocker also there really wasnt anything on this side to go off of except on the front pillar it was completely rotted out. the drivers side will be much easier its still got most its metal. |

Strykerta, on those first posts with all the pics that are just links, I think if you would do an edit and add at the end of each we'll be able to see them without having to click on each individually.

Re: Project Zeus.. 63 Chevy Stepside C10
well i originally had it that way but even with my resonably fast connection it took quite a while to load up. and it was absolute hell to load up via mobile internet so i did it that way for bandwidths sake. im going to go and change a few to just show some general pics and if people are interested in the close ups they can click away. doesnt that sound like the best route? let me know if theres any other ways to consolidate it a lil easier. thanks tho for your input

Quite a project you got there, but looks like you have it together and a good start. I like the step bed.

Re: Project Zeus.. 63 Chevy Stepside C10
Nice job. I can relate to the work your doing on your cab, I have an almost identical situation on my rust belt 64 step side farmers truck.
I'll be watching your thread, thanks for posting all the pictures, that's great. |
