New proud owner of a 1987 c700 dump W/pics.

Hey guys
New guy here just picked up a 87 gmc c7000 dump with a 363 5sp. picked her up for $900.00 i have tons of plans for this truck I'm doing a paint restore replacing the bed rails with stained solid wood sides some chroming. my son and i are very exited about are new project. this looks like great place for some info well post some more pics once the weather brakes.

I do have a few questions is there a site to buy parts for this old girl?
and shes been sitting for about 4 years runs OK but i know it needs a tune up and carb. rebuild. there is a ton of vacuum lines on this thing i would like to do a motor dress up but seems like a wast of time with amount of rubber lines can i do away with any of this stuff we don't have emissions here in Michigan.

Re: New proud owner of a 1987 c700 dump

The best place I have found parts for mine so far is NAPA. As far as the 363 I am not so sure, mine has a 350. Looks like a great truck and I am jealous, I only have a 4 speed. Napa has had some odd parts for it like the draglink and spring pads. Thant thing looks beast with that short bed on it. The po cut the bed down on mine too. What GVWR does it have?

Re: New proud owner of a 1987 c700 dump W/pics.

In PA I was able to register mine personal but I still need a DOT health card (already had it since I drive a UPS truck). My insurance (State Farm) is commercial for some reason. I guess it is the weight, I dropped mine down to 22,000 when I tagged it and it save me about $100 a year. If you dont need the emissions stuff I would get rid of it, my truck has a air pump that I am planning on getting rid of. I like your idea of dressing the motor up, would look great with the front end tilted.

When you have the hood open. Nothing but motor hanging out, I am thinking I am gonna dress my motor up a lil bit too just for that reason. I have another set of doors with shaved handles that I am gonna throw on it since the guy never paid me for them. Those tool boxes you have under the bed are really nice looking.

Very nice looking big truck. Be sure to keep us updated on the progress you make.
This is a great place, very well put together. But, it is like a black hole. Meaning, once you get sucked in...good luck getting back out!

Re: New proud owner of a 1987 c700 dump W/pics.

The interior swaps out with 73-87 interior. My interior was torn up so I swapped a lot of it out with the interior of my 82 C20 project. The only big difference on mine it the indicator lights are at the top of the dash and the key is on the dash instead of the steering column.

LOL Stay inside I'm in No hurry it's just an idea I've had for some time. to put a big truck front end on a crewcab dually. I know the firewall is different from the regular trucks but I wonder what would need to be changed to make it work.

Re: New proud owner of a 1987 c700 dump W/pics.

Nice find for that money! I saw a forum somewhere once that was dedicated to Fords of this size. Surely there is one for GMC/Chevy.

A retired farmer/neighbor did a conversion with a truck this size a few years back and added a sleeper, a mini car carrier for his car behind that and had a fifth wheel for his camper as well.

His wife and him use it as an RV rig each winter to do the "go to someplace warm for the winter" run. A lot of possibilities. Have fun with it!

(might be cheaper to tag it as an RV)

I wanna drop a crewcab c60 body on a regular dually frame with truck bed. Like a Kodiak without the price tag.
