New member here, just bought a new project

It's a pretty straight and rustfree California truck. A 1971 C10 with 350/350 drivetrain. It has factory A/C that seems to be working.

It looks like it had somewhat of an older restoration done. It's been repainted (poorly) inside and out, and looks like it has some new interior parts, and newer bed wood and metal strips.

Right now it has carb issues and a badly leaking trans pan, and possibly a few electrical gremlins, but it made the 1.5 hour drive home with no major issues other than the carb flooding.

My #1 priority was finding something that wasn't rusted, adn this is about the most solid vehicle of that era I could find. I plan to solve the minor mechanical issues and then drive it this summer to decide which direction to take the project.

As for the carb, the one on there is a Rochester Q-jet, but does not appear to be the correct one, aside from being poorly rebuilt at one point. Since it is not the right one, I figured I would try to locate the correct part and have that rebuilt.

Can someone confirm that 7041211 is the right carb for this truck? I am a bit confused since I was told that the last digit being an odd number indicates manul trans, and I have a 350 Turbo.

Also any pics of a stock carb setup on a 1971 350? I'd like to see the proper style of choke setup since mine looks like it has an aftermarket electric unit.

what are the 4 numbers below the model number? that should tell you what year it came from. Also, the last digit being odd for a manual tranny is not always the truth. my Q-jet is a 7040511 and it is OE off my '70 350/350 combo.

The carb on there now has a model number of 17054923, with a date code of 2626.

It appears so. There are little caps all around the outside edge which I think are covering up screws. I pulled the radio out to rewire it correctly, and there were a couple more caps there that were covering screws so I assume the caps on the edge are the same setup.

I was also happy to see that the dash has not been cut underneath that radio cover plate.

Here is a quick update on the carb situation. I got the new "correct" model carb off ebay, and it is in pretty nasty shape. The whole thing was caked in some tar like substance and sand, even sand inside the carb. Once I cleaned it off most of it looks very corroded, even in the fuel bowl - to the point I am concerned the accel pump might not seal very well. The final straw was when I went to disassemble the throttle body, one mixture screw was about halfway in, the other was jammed completely in, and when I tried to back that one out, it snapped offright at the throttle body.

So this carb needs a new throttle body at least.

I went back and took a closer look at the carb number that camme on the truck, and it actually appears to be a GM service replacement for all 1971 truck V8 engines. so it is also somewhat "correct." I think I will rebuild it for now to get up and running.

Ah, the GTO in the background. It will likely be sold as soon as the weather, and the market for such cars, warms up. Once the GTO is sold, the budget for doing the truck should free up.

I've had it for almost 5 years, and right now it has been returned to mostly stock. This time last year it had a cam, long tube headers, exhaust, and a Magnacharger kit putting out somwhere over 500HP. Lots of fun, but after 5 years I got the urge to move to something different, thus the truck.

Life is short, and there are too many cool vehicles out there to stick with just one for so long...
