AN wrench?

Is a requirement to use a AN wrench on a AN fitting or can I use a regular SAE wrench?

If it's a steel AN fitting you can use a regular wrench.

Aluminum fittings you're better off using an AN-specific wrench so you don't damage (round off) the fitting.

Be careful either way, you don't have to put the gorilla grip on them to get a seal.

More intelligent words have never been spoken. I think the reason so many AN fittings get boogered up is people feel the need to over tighten them as much as they do oil filters.

I worked as an Airframe and Powerplant for years and I don't think I have ever seen a specific AN wrench in anyone's tool box. We always just used the wide SnapOn open end wrenches.

I use a regular wrench, but as stated above don't have to use "the gorilla grip" on it. I have been guilty of that several times on regular bolts, when it snaps just back off a half round. HAHA.

AN wrenches are made from aluminum so's not to damage aluminum or stainless AN fittings.

I have seen them. I'm just saying that working on stuff with AN fittings daily I have never seen anyone use one. We never damaged any fittings using the generic SnapOn wide open end wrenches on them.

I've always used regular open end wrenches on fittings that I don't care about scratching up. On my fancy stuff that I like to keep looking good I use adjustable crecent wrenches to ensure a nice tight fit with no slippage, works good.

I have used both and if you have the blue, red or black fittings the regular wrench will scratch them up and will look like poop when you are done. If your spending all that money on the hose and fittings might as well spend the extra money for the wrenches and do it right.

Awhile back Summit had their house brand wrench set on sale including sizes -3 to -HUGE so I went ahead and bought it. They work great and keep the anodizing presentable.
