Question Should I buy this?? - 65/66 GMC heavy - Help me decide by 9pm

Here's the deal: I don't really have the extra cash laying around (got too many projects already - and one in pieces in the garage). But it seems too good to pass up, and I really need to make a decision tonight, as someone is coming to look at it tomorrow, and I doubt they'll pass... FYI, my wife says no, so I thought I'd put it to a vote on the forum here! Go, democracy!

Here's the breakdown:
Says 65 on windshield, but grille says 66
Clear title
RUNNING 305 V6
4 speed tranny
brake line is leaking, so hydraulic clutch doesn't work right now either (haul it home)
Passenger door - folded at the top - but I have an extra door or two
Cab is pretty straight, but could use a corner and I imagine some floor?
He claims it is heavier than a ton and a half, but I don't know (forgot to get the VIN
Don't know much else about it, but I got the guy down to $450. I probably need to give him an answer by 9ish tonight...
Let's see what everyone has to say!!!

I dunno. I don't see how you can go wrong. I'd say you could get close to $450 just in the price of crushing it.

Re: Should I buy this?? - 65/66 GMC heavy - Help me decide by 9pm

I'd say buy it if you need it, love it, and can afford to fix it. And for practicality, you can probably find one that is well maintained on a farm sale for well under 2K. You could end up with more than that in this one just getting it road worthy, and still not be as nice as what you could buy for less.

I don't see it as a money maker either.

Now, that being said... if it was just down the road from me- I'd probably buy it

I was going to say there appears to be more than $450 in parts alone if you wanted to piece it out. The grille and hood look great. It would make a big difference in deciding if you could actually use something this big. If you had a need for it, that would be a big plus.

But of course if the wife says no, there's not much to decide.......

It's 9:32. Are you out buying the truck, or looking for a new home?

As it works out, it's an hour earlier here. But my wife is inking up her VETO stamp.
Maybe I shouldn't have posted this... With all the opinions thus far to the positive side of 'get it', I will lose what little respect I may have had here if I let my wife wear the pants on this one... (seriously, she's not supporting the idea of me owning this truck - and the forum's votes don't hold much weight with her)
Well, back to the argument. If I'm going to lose, I'm going to go down fighting...

You have to remember the old addage - Happy wife, happy life.
That being said, when do you pick up the truck?

Re: Should I buy this?? - 65/66 GMC heavy - Help me decide by 9pm

You guys want to hear 'adding insult to injury'? All the while I'm being told NO emphatically, she's online looking at baby stuff (trying to spend my truck money) for our first-born - who won't even be here till August! How can she tell me no about a TRUCK, and then try to spend the money on BABY stuff???

Okay, time to concede defeat. How do you make the 'whipped' smiley face? I tried :whipped: but no luck...

Well I was going to be the voice of reason and try to convince you to pass on that big beast and fix up what you have. To be fair though, if it was a dump truck I'd say go for it.

Besides, you'll need the baby stuff...or so my wife says.

Don't be too hard on yourself, this is just a taste of the many humiliating defeats you'll suffer after the kids come along! It gets easier with experience!!

If it was a dump truck, there'd have been no question.

As far as the baby stuff, that sounds like a wife response; they have their priorities so messed up...

Guess now I've got $450 of truck money I didn't spend that I can pour into my current project (she won't see the logic in that, either).
