Re: Tailgate trim installallation blues
Which pieces are giving you trouble? Use lots of the blue painters tape, install the clips into the piece of trim and carefully lay the trim over the holes, making any alignment ness. push slowly and uniformly. If you are using repop trim it bends easily so you might place some lithium grease on the clips the ease installation. I had to drill holes in my nos fenders and this method resulted in no scratches or bent chrome. SLOW and STEADY!

Re: Tailgate trim installallation blues
I get them in the holes alright I just can't seem to get them in far enough to spring the clips completely out for a tight fit. I have tried bending the clips out a little but to no avail...

Re: Tailgate trim installallation blues
Does the gate have any filler around the holes? That can be a problem. Are the clips GM or aftermarket- if after market the units from av-ee-co seem to work the best. Some of the others just will not get the job done. where are you starting the install? You prob. already have the center handle piece in place with the barrell clips. if so start the clip next to it and work toward the end of the gate. I would try a different clip set and give them a good push. Sorry I'M not more help, it would be easier if I could put my hands on it.

Re: Tailgate trim installallation blues
I've had the same issue with some of the aftermarket clips, I ended up snipping the very end of the fingers off the clips to get them to catch.

Re: Tailgate trim installallation blues
x 2. I had to do the same thing on some of the aftermarket clips on my trim.

Re: Tailgate trim installallation blues
You guys and this forum are AWESOME! I clipped mine as instructed and bingo! Worked like a dream. I knew it just needed a slight bit more and it would release but I had not thought of clipping the ends a bit. Great help! Thanks!
