my 72 blazer project
Hello all, I recently picked up up a 72 4x4 blazer that am about to restore/ modify. First how I got the blazer. I have always wanted a 69 - 72 blazer and my Mom's had dad one that he sold when I was around 5 yrs old. My other grandfather's friend had one he used on his farm and trips to town, that I had ridden in several times. Well I asked about it in 2005 and he told me he had sold it . Now just 3 weeks ago I see a ad for a "71 blazer $1000" in the local craigslist. So I called about it, went to see it that morning, 28 degrees and very windy I didnt look it over very good but ended up buying for 800. The guy says the title is being mailed and I can pick it up in 2 days. Two days later I go back to get the title and notice that it was actually a 72 and that it was the one I tried to buy in 05 as it had my granfather's friend listed as previous owner. Now my plans are to restore the body and add a 99 Tahoe's frame , 350 engine , 4l60e , electric shift transfer case and 3.73 gears. pictures below show the current state, and the tahoe frame. The blaser has the usuall rusty rockers, front lower quarters and rust from the battery along with a cracked up hatch.but in over all good codition.

Re: my 72 blazer project
Welcome to the board, really cool story!
At one point I was looking into doing the same thing, I had gone and looked at a '97 Tahoe (complete running/driving) and was hoping to do the same thing your about to do. I never bought the Tahoe, so I'm no real help aside from handing out a "welcome" and subscribing to the thread to see how it all turns out. Last edited by vtblazer; 03-01-2010 at 06:04 PM. |

Cool story, looks like a fun project to watch. My K5 was originally that medium blue also.

Re: my 72 blazer project
i like the idea.
only the new tahoe frame width difference might b a challenge, other than that, sould be able to make work easy enough, esp being 4x4.

Re: my 72 blazer project
Yes the newer frame is 45 inches wide, I believe it will work , if I remove about 2 inches from the foward half of the rocker support boxes under the floor. The boxes are wider in the front than they are at the rear any way.So Im thinking square them up and it should be ok. The frame also needs to be shortened about 13 inches , which will be no big deal will probably even have to cut down the raised section over the rear axle, im thinking replace it with a section from a truck which is flat over the axle. Hopefully I will get a chance to really get going on it in the next few weeks, with better weather coming.
