Attention Local SF Bay Area Members 60-63 GMC at Newark Pick N Pull

I just got back from Pick n Pull on Mowry in Newark, They just set down a 60-63 GMC truck, looks like it had the big 6 engine when new, 1/2 ton rear leaf spring truck, but now has a much later 70s 350 and 4 speed, the GMC hood is very good with just two rust holes on the rear corners, doors are nice except have the usual rust on the corners, looks like they could be saved with a few small patches, fenders are straight but have been patched on the lowers, the RH front is already removed in the bed, glass is not cracked but has a wiper scratch on the RH side , has a complete economy heater assembly

Get down there and get what you need fast, these things get torn apart quick !!

If its 2WD, and leaf spring rear, it must be a '63 model. Rear end should be spicer 44 with 3.07 gears. Is it a standard or custom?

Re: Attention Local SF Bay Area Members 60-63 GMC at Newark Pick N Pull

Finding parts on Craigslist is easier and cheaper now. Last time I went to pnp they wanted $44 for a HEI with coil and that was with a 1/3 off. I found one on craigslist and he wanted $25. I didn't buy it because I found a whole truck for $100. I got the HEI and most of my front end parts.
What really got me about PNP is that now they charge you $2 for each yard you go to. Not just $2 and hit all the yards. If I go to one yard it will probably be Fairfield. I will go there with a friend of mine.
Gee I sound like a grouch don't I.

Re: Attention Local SF Bay Area Members 60-63 GMC at Newark Pick N Pull

I have been to the PNP yards recently here in Phoenix and they dont have any chevy trucks older than 1973. Craigslist has been a huge help. There is a classic vehicle yard on the north end of town except your beter off buying (money wise) a complete truck for parts off craigslist just to get the few things you need.

A few weeks ago I seen a older guy in a ratty flatbed with a wheel less car on back. He was pulling a trailer that had a unrestored 64-66 complete minus wheels and tires rolling down the freeway. I just knew he was metal scrapping this old truck. I'm sure he seen me lurking both sides of that truck while we were moving down the freeway. I was on him like a car jacker ready to pull him over while I brainstormed what I would say and where i would put this thing if I got it. I was even calling my wife who also shares a love for old trucks. I couldnt make it work and unfortenly, I had to let it go. Kinda felt like i just put a good dog down. Thought I would share.

Thanks Matt's k5. You are correct. I have been studying these trucks for over 30 years. I learned to be very specific on year and model and not make any generalizations for the 60-66 era. If you talk 4x4 or 1 ton, rules change, but the subject in the PNP is a 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive GMC.

Got a chance to visit the yard. The GMC is pretty much all pulled apart, there also was a turquiose 65 Chevy that was in a high speed front end collision. Too bad, it was all original paint and very clean.

definitely a 63 check out the coil springs, looks like the grille is worth saving if they dont want to much for it
